In four months, I'm going to hit the road, and will be putting 300 to 400 miles a day on the cruiser for eight straight weeks, and my leather is trashed.

I've been eyeing AATLAS1X's leather kit, along with replacement seat foam, but if there's a kit for cloth out there, I'd rather do that.

There's a few guys in town formerly from south of the border who have good upholstery shops, so I can also go that route for the cloth if I need to. Has anyone gone leather to cloth, and how'd you like it? Any pics?

I need to do make a decision within a couple of months, and if I go AATLAS1X, he'll need time to build it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would like cloth only for the summers! I really like the feel of new leather though! I wonder if they make seat coolers?

I thought I saw it mentioned that AATLAS1X could do Alcantra, which is a cloth. If so, maybe he can do other types of cloth? I like the look/feel of new leather, but also like the longevity of cloth, seems to look better in the long term (ie. 8+ years). I would be interested to see what kind of options there are for cloth.

If your interested in some high end cloth for you 80, send me a PM. We have some overstock OEM cloth for BMWs and MBs. They are very nice in quality and durability. Good stuff, or else BMW and MB wouldnt use it.

Im debating if I should go with leather, cloth, or some really nice OEM MB vinyl for my 94.

It might be a long shot, but could you find someone parting an 80 with cloth interior? Personally I love the cloth in my 80, even after 19 years it still looks new. It takes a LOT of work to keep leather looking that nice over the long term.

Why would you want cloth? The leather isn't much more in cost. I should be picking up mine from the upholstery shop today. I went with perforated leather, two tone color and it's still just a $1000. I just have it in my head that I will have the leather done every 10 yrs, so $1000 over 10yrs just isn't much money. On the other hand, I had a cloth 94 and loved it. The biggest reason I loved it is I liked the front manual seats better, I think they're more comfortable. If you're wanting cloth, I would try to find someone wanting to trade and swap them your stuff.

Oh, the cost has nothing to do with it. I love the pics of the light grey/dark grey that AATLAS1X did for someone here. And, I'd go perforated, too, if I go that route. I think the work is top-notch, and have nothing against doing the work myself. In fact, I haven't let anyone touch my cruiser in 4 years.

I've just NEVER been a fan of leather, but also haven't bought a vehicle with leather that wasn't close to 10 years old, so I might judging new leather unfairly.

Everytime I ride in friends' vehicles with cloth, I'm so jealous, so that tells me where I'm probably headed.

I've looked on the internet specifically for a (cheap) Cruiser just so I could take the seats, but haven't found the one yet.

Thanks so much for the replies.

FWIW, I have cloth in mine, and it's great. The seat covers themselves are fine, although the driver's cushions are getting "flat". I may renew them. Ned

I was in the midst of this debate and after having owned many cars with both leather and cloth, I can tell you that cloth is by far the better choice for wear and tear...even for comfort. Leather is really only about the look and feel (feel and comfort being two different things)...to qualify, this is just my personal opinion.

I do think that leather can last but you have to maintain it...keep it clean and conditioned. Not many people do this...at least correctly and as often as needed. Then there are companies that just use inferior products...take Ford for example, I have a 2008 Expedition, two-tone leather...the drivers seat is showing extreme wear from sliding in and out of the truck...not acceptable in my opinion...the leather is thin and simply not designed for anything more than occasional sitting...not the wear and tear of daily driving.

So as I make my decision, I believe I am going to stay with leather...will more than likely go two-tone (beige with chocolate inserts) now I am just dabating on whether or not to perforate the inserts. I have two options that I've found for supplying me with the kit and a third here in town that will do the entire thing in house (about $400-500 more)...probably going to do the install myself...all of my seats are out right now except my drivers seat (gotta sit somewhere). After cleaning my seats and conditioning them, they're not nearly as bad as I originally thought (I just bought this truck a few weeks ago), but I want it all to match, so it looks like all three rows are going to be replaced.
