I get rubbing at full lock or close to it. Thinking of removing front mud flaps. Anyone else done this?

Does the truck sustain a lot more dirt or damage to running boards?

Also did you remove the rears?

Post pics.

I removed mine, don't have my truck at work so can't grab any real good pics. I know some guys just heat them up and reshape them...

I removed mine when I added Spidertrax spacers to my 285/70/17 KO2's on Rock Warriors due to rubbing with the wider sweep/arc.
Never missed them...

I left the rears on my rig...

I'd actually like to find some flaps for my big-ol' rear end I don't throw gravel at ppl...

Not sure what options to go with my Slee bumper...

No mud flaps front and back. Sliders sorta act like front flaps.

I removed the front flaps. And guess what... still rubbing. Turns out it's the front of the well lining. Particularly the bolt I think. Judging by how it sounds and that it only happens in reverse.

So the question is do I found that both down and remove it. I just don't want to inner lining all loose. Thinking about how Toyota tends to over in Janere I'm thinking it will probably still be secure. Will have to experiment.

Meanwhile the truck looks cleaner without the phone flights. Also gives the appearance of it being higher.

I want to add spacers as well. But with the front of the inner well rubbing not sure they would work. According to the pics above not sure 1.25" more width would even come close to working. Did you not have to remove the bolt or lining?

@Evoking, note that areas which are very close but don't rub when sitting still will likely rub when you're driving. Take some turns at 15-20 mph and let me know if you still don't rub

With +20 offset wheels I don't think you can add another 1.25" of width without scrubbing your fenders if you flex the suspension. Mine is pretty close at +25 offset, and I've seen some photos from @kreiten where his +20 offset wheels come within 1/2" of the fender. 1.25" spacers would put you effectively at -11 offset.

IMO +20mm offset is the furthest I would go for a wheel on a 200 series, otherwise it will never tuck properly in the rear. Just my 2 cents

So what of the inner well bolt. Anyone else have to remove?

I'll start by saying that your alignment has a lot to do with how much rubbing (if any) you have. Positive caster will reduce rubbing behind the front tires at the expense of increasing rubbing at the front fender liner, for instance. Negative camber is more likely to rub on the UCA but will tuck into the fender slightly better. And adding caster with aftermarket UCAs does not provide the same clearance as doing so with the LCA cam bolts.

Now to answer your question, in the front I removed the two small bolts on the front and the tiny mud flap in front of the front wheels. Once that spot stopped rubbing another one crept up. I did some small cutting on the one spot that was rubbing and then another spot started. Finally I decided to hell with it. In the end I trimmed about 12" up from the front fender liner and basically all the way across.

In the rear of the front wheels I removed the mud flaps, temporarily removed the plastic rocket panel bolts and use some tin snips and a hammer (and then some touch-up paint) to "re-form" the bracket behind it, and then finally took a heat gun to the liner and warmed and reformed (pushed inward) the liner that was previously underneath the mud flap, since it is kinda square and sticks out too far and rubs.

In my experience if you're rubbing when parked the spot you're rubbing may very well be hiding another spot you'd also rub. Also in my experience you'll rub more when driving then when sitting still - 1/8" of clearance when parked is a likely rubbing spot when you have turn-induced body roll.

Here's what I initially trimmed in front on the drivers side. I don't have an updated photo but I ended up cutting up higher and trimming some of the bumper at the bottom as well, just to be sure:

This is the spot in the rear of the front tire on the drivers side. The darker section in the center was warmed and pressed inward, then allowed to cool. Note that @Atwalz didn't have to do this but @kreiten did - I think because @kreiten and I have lower offset wheels while @Atwalz rocks the RWs.

I won't get home until after dark tonight but if you're interested I can take some better photos this weekend.

I cut the hell out of mine to prevent rubbing. I even cut a mounting tab off the front bumper before removing the forward portion of the liner.
