My dad has years of overspray and other stains on his epoxy flooring in his shop. He's wanting to clean it and make it look new again. Anyone had any great success cleaning this up? Any suggestions?

His epoxy floor paint is from Lowes and has quite a bit of texture. Mine is U Coat It, and I left the texture out so that it would clean up easier.

We're planning to use a pressure washer, but I'm wondering what kind of chemicals....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

David.

if it were mine i would try some standard floor cleaners....than recoat it...texture and all...good luck

try some acid on a small area to see if that lifts the overspray. I did the same in my old garage to remove flux core weld marks on the floor. I also used a commercial floor scrubber and comet with bleach to brighten it up before I sold the house.

Thanks, I didn't think of renting a floor scrubber, but that makes perfect sense. From looking online at the rental places, I guess a floor polisher/sander is the same thing.

What type of acid did you use? The only type I have any experience with is muriatic (pool) acid that I used to prep the floor for the epoxy. I'm guessing that you're suggesting something different?

depending on the kind of overspray, I have used a product called goof off to get latex off of things. Might give it a shot. They make graffitti remover as well that might help.

I just cleaned my garage (epoxy shield) with purple power, a deck brush and a pressure washer. Came out OK, but a stronger degreaser would have worked better. When I prepped for the epoxy shield, ther little bag of acid did an amazing job. I thought it was a citric (citrus?) acid, but it could have been muriatic. Did not say.

Update. I took wfd175's advice and rented a commercial floor cleaner/polisher. It was an ESL17 and I rented it from Hugg and Hall for $25 for the weekend. It uses big abrasive pads like scotch brite pads. I also used Comet for the cleaner--About 5 containers of it.

Essex Silver-Line Corporation, Home of the World's Finest Floor Sanders

Worked great! I highly recommend it. Thanks for your help.
