I have a 1984 GM D30 Military Diesel.

It is 4WD with Dana 60's front and rear!

I'm not sure what gears are in this thing but it's geared low because top speed is about 55mph!!

Disc brakes on front, drums on rear.

It is a 6.2 diesel motor that fires up with out any hesitation every time!!

Auto trans shifts smooth.

Tires are 235 85 r16's (aprox. 31"s tall) with about 90% tread left!

This Rig only has 69k original miles!

I'm asking $2800 cash or trade....bring on the offers!!

All you need to do is cut the fenders, take off the bed and thro some 38's on it and you will have an awesome wheel'n rig!:grinpimp:

Roy,

Those things usually have 4.56's and the rear is sometimes a detriot or LS of some sort...I know the '85 and '86 are that way anyhow......is it a CUCV 1008 or a 1028 radio truck????

I have $ 2K right now.....just sold the Saturn last night !!!!!!!.

Check out the rear end.......it should be a Corporate 14 bolt...
Should be a TH 400 trans and 208 T-case me thinks.

Those are cool trucks, but the 6.2/6.5's are not up on my list of oil burners.....

Rust is a BIG issue with those........got pics of the rear cab corners, fenders, and door bottoms/rockers ???????

Could you do $2,200??

Unless it was tampered with it has the 6.2 Detroit diesel, TH400, NP208, D60 front and corporate 14 bolt fullfloat rear (10.5" ring gear) with factory detroit locker and 4.56 gears. I just traded one for a FJ60. VERY stout truck. If its a 1028 it also has a limited slip front and higher GVWR.

BTW that one looks to be in very good shape. The military yards have a bad habit of moving them with forklifts!

I don't think it was tampered with b/c I bought it at a GSA sale.
And it has never been titled b/c I have a certificate that says
"The United States Government Certificate to Obtain Title to a Vehicle" then of course the vin# and the rest of the info... So I guess who ever buys this will kinda be like the first owner:hhmm:!
Thanks mtrdrms for the details!

I think there should be (or was a data plate that would say 1008 or 1028 on it) Plus other info...do not remember where they are located on these trucks......

the military does like to move them around w/ forklifts and that is a bit hard on the D- shafts !!!

Will have to think about the price....depends on if it is a 1028 !!
I am "on call" at work tomorrow and Sunday...will try and call you SAT. if that is OK.....

More pics will help......thanks.....

No rust on Pass Side but does have a dent and sloppy paint

Does have a rust spot on drivers side about the size of a silver dollar.

If you had that truck here in the northeast you could get 3k for it in about an hour. They make killer plow trucks.

Most, but not ALL of them had Detroits in the rear. I have one that didn't have one.
I spent 20 years in the Army as a mechanic, trust me.
If anyone is ever told that a military 14ff has a Detriot, CHECK IT!

Looks like it is a 1008. Minimal rust for one of those unless the military paint is covering some...
Jack up the rear and see if the wheels both turn the same way..one way to see if it has some kind on locker in the rear.

have you had the 6.2 checked out by anyone....??
They are real bad about blown HG's and cracked heads, etc..as I am told .

Will try and call again.....just left you a message....I worked 18 hours yesterday and am on call 24 on Sunday....just a wee bit tired.

I will have my ASE Certifide Master Tech to check it all out Monday.

That will be a good idea...
A compression test and a check for traces of coolent in the oil, etc will do a lot for my interest......

Get it in writing too....nice selling point.

While the blown HG and cracked heads is certainly true it is mostly on ones with higher miles just the the FZJ. With one with as few miles as this one then you'd be safe. Also heads and replacement parts for the detroit diesel 6.2 are cheap and very common.

Sent you a text message to the number you had listed but havent received a reply. If your willing to throw in 500 bucks (cash or firearms) i'd give you an 07 honda rancher 420 for it. let me know if your interested.

I don't think I can beat that deal if it is a 4x4 Rancher.

Those Honda ranchers are awesome.....our son has a '07 420 4x4 Rancher too. Honda got him on one of their sleazy pmt plans.....he loves the Rancher. It is a lot of bang for the buck.... very dependible, strong and fast.

BTW, SteveC, You are just around the corner from me.
I'm in Evans.......
