I'm trying to carry extra fuel for my trip and the 2 jerry cans i have, i don't want them upright because that's too tall, if i lay them down it might leak. Then i found this gas tank that boat uses, it sits upright and is low profile, easy to strap onto my roof rack with the 2 indentations they made, and i can just transfer fuel from the top to my tank via siphon pump.

I don't play on having it full until i get to Moab where i'll be doing a lot of low speed long distance exploring, just don't want to get stranded. Any thoughts on this?

This is what i'm talking about.

I just placed and order, i'll strap it up there and fill it with gas then take it on a shakedown run and report back, if i hear any sloshing or if the can swell up and explode or not. i'ts 90F here

yup, have used a couple of similar affairs. Very convenient. But could be quite heavy up top. You may want to check your local regulations if you plan to have them full on public roadways? (Although I would think that they would be easygoing with 4wheelers in Moab.)

I bet if you keep it full of gas you will be good to go. Either 100% full or 100% empty, no in between.

If i top it off, like rim it, less chance of it expanding right? Not sure how gasoline works, i imagine having it half full would allow vapors to form and turn this tank into a balloon.

Gas weighs 6lbs per gallon, the container weighs 7lbs, so full 12 gallons would be around 80lbs, that's not too bad i think. Since most people carry RTT up there upwards of 150-200lbs. I haven an aftermarket aluminum rack.

It will swell unless you open the breather. Open the breather and sloshing gas will likely find its way out. Can’t beat the Latvian Jerry cans.

Good idea! "Safe Practice: Always place gas can on ground before refueling. Touch can with gas dispenser nozzle before removing can lid. Keep gas dispenser nozzle in contact with can inlet when filling." ~ Fire Marshall Bill
