In March 2008, the dealer replaced the ECM that controls the Lites shutting off on a time delay after you :
1.) remove the key from the ignition with the lites still on, and/ or,
2.) lock the truck with a key fob control with the lites on.
It began as an intermittent problem and escalated over time to a full time issue.
Now the intermittent problem is back.
Of course the dealer wanted to see the problem, before they would try to repair it; so as luck would have it, last weekend when I picked it up at the dealer after a oil change and tire rotation, the porter left the lites on removed the key... and viola... 5 minutes later the lites are still on.
I got the Service Writer and showed him the lites on and now they will bring it in.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. gm

Sounds stupid....But check that the back tailgate window is fully slammed shut.....

I Checked the Window and doors ........

They are all shut tight.........gm

My lights stay on after the key is out...I thought that was part of the cost shaving of the FJ...no auto-off lights. Mine isn't TRD, don't know if that makes a difference.

My lights will stay on if the key is removed with the lights on for 30 seconds. I can also lock it with them on with the remote and they go out after the same amount of time. I believe that's the way they are designed. They ARE auto-off.

this is correct...

If you turn the lights on after the key is turned off they will stay on indefinately.

and you need to lock the truck twice to turn them off immediatly.

My Lite problem is intermitent but...

when it malfunctions; the lites stay on when the truck is cut off with the lites on and the key removed.
In addition, as you walk away and lock the unit with the key fob ,the lites will not go off.
As I mentioned, this happened earlier this year; got worse and the dealer replaced an ECM that controls the auto off mode.
All was good but now during the past 4-5 weeks it has begun to reoccurr.
I finally got the dealer to see the problem and I will put it in again soon.
More to follow...........gm

Dude, your truck is haunted like that car in the old "Twilight Zone" episode. Go turn yourself in to the police and confess to the hit-and-run accident at the elementary school before it runs you over!

One of other posters said lock the truck twice... Correct.

I always leave my lights turned on, day and night. Hit the lock on the fob one time, it locks all the doors, hit it again and it turns off all the lights (unless you turned on the headlights after turning off the ignition).
