Here the issue on my wife's car (stinking POS) any help would be wonderfull since there is no info out there.

OK I'm officially ready to scream. I found out today that the POS radiator has developed a hole in it allowing the coolant and tranny fluids to mix...yep a whole 69k on the car, sick! So the dealer wants to not only change the radiator but the tranny as well (LMAO) it's slipping slightly but mostly because it's low on fluid. Well after hearing they want $1000 to pull the radiator I want to look into pulling it myself. So I need a little help since there are no FSM's for this thing.
1. how long should it take keeping in mind I've pulled engines and trannies.
2. Is there a trick to separate the AC condenser from the radiator without having to discharge the AC system.
3. can you flush the tranny using the transmission cooling lines?
4. are there any other tricks to get the radiator out?
5. can the radiator be serviced?
6. is there any negative aspects to installing a separate tranny cooler and abandoning the one in the radiator?
this whole thing is blowing my mind when I'm comparing it to my Land Cruiser  that has 200,000 miles on it and has never had a major repair more than an alternator.

2003 s60 2.5t automatic FWD
phoenix, az

lesson learned = car should be Japanese, Truck should be Japanese.

Questions,The 2.5t in your sig means it's turbo right. And the trans,is it 4 or 5 speed automatic. There's adifference in the coolers for the transmissions and turbo charged cars. I worked on a Chevy truck this past friday that had water contamination from a bad radiator. I replaced the radiator and sent them down the road to have the trans flushed out. So far so good.

There are several Volvo forums on the net, they will be more help. There is also a Volvo email group on Yahoo, you might want to join that.

Bentley makes a decent repair manual set for these cars.

1. Shouldn't take more than 2 hour to remove it.
2. You should be able to R&R the radiator from the top without touching the AC
3. Yes you can "flush" the trans just like a 80 series. Remove the output line most likely the upper line and slip a larger hose onto it and point it at a bucket.
4&5 the front of the car is plastic and you can remove the cover over the radiator most likely from the top. If I remember correctly it is the 850 and 70 series that you remove the radiator from the bottom.
6. Shouldn't be an issue to replace the trans cooler with a seperate cooler.
7. IPDUSA.com sells volvo parts, local for me and great service.

I use them regularly for mom's v70xc.
anything else?

BTW the s60 can be reguarded as the ford taurus of the volvo world. A real stinky POS.

HUH, the S60 is hands down way better than the Ford Taurus (fit, finish, realibility).

I've owned Volvos for 10 years and have enjoyed them. They are bullets and will run forever if you take care of them.

I have a 2005 S60R and have had 0 problems with it. I would say the unrealiable Volvo is the S80. The S80 has been plagued with major problems, but not the S60.

My S60R has been lowered and has an Upgraded ECU. IT will easily walk away from a Mustang GT or Z28. I get so much pleasure out of spanking a V8. My neighbor has a 2004 EVO and he had to make major $$ upgrades to finally beat my S60R. His car is very fast, but no where near as luxurious as my S60R.

Hi....When we had our volvo 850 I routinely posted questions to volvospeed.com or volvoworld.com...I forget which. folks were nice there.

Try calling Jim at the Swedish Pit here in Burlington, VT (802.863.2646) and pose your questions. you could lie and say you live in town and feel like you are getting the run around, ask for some advice....

Sorry abou the troubles....

s60 is volvo from the ground up....s80 is ford from the ground up....I let the dealer handle the maintanence wifes car never had any problems....if you can wrench the 80 you should be able to fix the 60....I vote fush the tranny and drive....good luck...also talk to the guys in parts they are usually very helpful and knowlegable....
