One part I did not order for my road trip :frown:

Everything else is installed/replaced/changed and ready to go

Good Job, Kudos to William for helping out a fellow member.

Heck yeah! And also to Barton who sent us specs for the plugs etc. realtime

William was very patient and explained every function in detail. Now I want to give Baby a tune-up even though she had one 25 miles ago :lol:

We opened up the spring packages and they are beautiful. I need to order some shackles and bushings and such in order to proceed with the install. I went ahead and sprayed everything down with PB again for good measure ;)

Kelly did the airintake hose break? Im assuming it did. You can duct tape it together. Worked on mine when it broke the first time I checked the air filter. Freaking 12 year old rubber parts>LOL

I may have to try that :hillbilly:

Local dealership wants 5-7 days to get the part in

Anyone have a spare air intake hose

After the removal of the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, we look at the old wires and found the date to be 1996 which is the same year of her truck, which means that they were the original wires, the one thing that someone did was change the plugs because they were Bosch platinum 4's, which I know are not the original plugs. But why would someone go through the hassle of changing the plugs but not the plug wires? as you had to remove the wires from the top of the motor, so that you could change the plugs. Looks like someone got lazy, or did not want to change the wires.
The air intake had a crack in it before we started the work, put when I put it back on the crack got bigger, and the crack in the hose is where the flex ribs are rite before the throttle body intake.
We also changed the oil. So after all the work I started it up and it ran fine for the first few seconds and then the crack in the hose allowed the engine to suck in excess air, which caused the LC to idle erratically.

William found an air intake hose at Alamo Toyota FTW :bounce::bounce2::bounce:

I really have some bad mojo with Universal. They told me there was not one available at any of the dealers here in town. :bang:

Good job William. Ill take Universal off my list for getting parts. After you being told that and the last few times I called about some prices- to be told prices 10+% over msrp ill go elsewhere.

What is it with you guys and Universal?? s*** they order parts for me that they don't even show part numbers for. I guess they are for more advanced customers. BTW, the only way to tell if anyone "in town" has a part is to call, no automated system.

I have very bad luck with them. :meh:

My money is as green as yours. I can't fathom how being "advanced" pertains to receiving adequate customer service. That is a very stupid business model and makes me very happy to spend my money at American Toyota. Cdan provides above and beyond customer service every single time. This past week I ordered on a Saturday and received my parts on Tuesday afternoon. I neither requested or paid for expedited shipping. Ordering from ABQ means no sales tax and Cdan's prices kill the other dealers.

I should mention again that no one has to only go to Universal Toyota. We have an account at Cavender and I set one up at Red McCombs.

I will keep those other two in mind next time I have an emergency and make sure to call each one myself.

What Kelly said is my thoughts also. Ill check the others next time I need something that isnt worth being shipping from American or Im on a time crunch.

Toyota of Dallas (TRDParts4U) is decent also with pricing (slightly more than American) and can FedEx to here in 1-2 days as normal shipping.

When going to the others do we just mention Alamo City Cruisers?

Red Mccombs does me right every time. Talk to Jacob or Earnest...great CS.

The 80 is back in service

I cannot believe how much better the truck runs. Much quieter and smoother. :steer:

Have others had issues with Universal? I didn't realize there were so many issues with them.

I don't use them just because they're a bit far away. As for "advanced customers", I'm not sure I see that. Besides Javiar, whom I've known many years, they have the same parts monkeys working behind the counter as most dealerships. Today they're in parts, tomorrow service and next week sales. CDan is the only guy I've dealt with that I would consider "advanced".

When the guy checked their "sister dealerships" inventory and didn't see the part, it was in his interest to order it to make the sale. It's a calculated gamble. Most people would say, "Sure. Order it". In this case, Kelly had someone call a competing store that did have the part and she bought it there. Universal lost the sale.

No offense but IMO Cdan is over rated. I've never found his price to be at such a discount that paying shipping would be worth it. Even if he had it in stock, typical orders will be had out of Houston next day for local dealerships. He is undoubtably a great source of 'cruiser specific knowledge. I would also counter that the parts guys are a revolving door. I've deal with Caesar who is now in the back of parts for over 10yrs and he is the best to deal with. Tony up front is great but by no means a parts guru. I haven't seen a new parts guy in years and that would only be Javiar. By advanced customers, I go in with a part number and I'm out. I don't expect the guys to go the extra mile to track a part down. Making the sale or not, yours and even my business is very small cheese for them, take it in perspective. Do I care if anyone likes Universal, no. I just cannot see how I've never had any problems in over 10yrs and everyone else has issues.

Kelly I hope you have a great road trip. Sorry I didn't get back to you about the plugs. Next time I go in to get some parts, I'll give them some grief for ya. :D

Oh no offense taken at all. I like CDan but if I need a Toyota Part or any other part for that matter, I go direct to the parts warehouses. It's far less expensive and a perk of my job.
My perspective is that ANYONE can walk in with a part number and the monkey can order it (BTW, sometimes I'm the monkey so I don't mean it in a derogative manner). It's far easier for parts people to deal with you or me than say, Kelly. We know exactly what we want and they have no research to perform to find it. I think it's far more difficult for someone to come in and give a partial description of a part and where it's located. That forces the monkey to search for information using computers and cognitive skills.
