i would be cool with this, but after shipping i would have to sell them for at least $1000 ea to break even, are there 22 ppl who would buy them at that price?

not worth the money not even at 1/2 that number. I am so over the whole buy an old military trailer idea. They need so much done to them to make them truly trail ready. Building a a bunch of them is a better idea. Something I have in the works ;)

Just curious DD what do thing needs to be done to make them trail ready?

Phil, I am not sure what I would pay. When the original group buy was discussed I was willing to pay 750 for one. Since that time I have seen two M416s for sale in Arizona. In both cases the seller was asking 1500. In one of those cases the trailer was a rusty mess.

The current price comes out to 850 a trailer. I would pay that. In fact, I would probably pay 1000 if it came to it. Above that, I am not sure if it is worth it.

I would think you could eventually find local buyers for all those trailers at those prices, but it might take a while. That is of course, the problem. The whole time-value-of-money thing, as well as the general risk of having several grand worth of trailers sitting around unsold. Even if you sold them at 1000 bucks a piece you are only getting 3k for your trouble.

Plus, there is always the possibility that some of those trailers may be "less than perfect".

If the price was 650 a trailer I would certainly be trying to scrounge up the money to buy the lot. But at 850 a trailer, for 22 trailers, it is a much tougher call.

But then I think of those 1500 dollar rust-bucket M416s . . . Maybe I am underestimating their value.

The lenght of the tongue is too short for backing up, The tires/rims will most probubly need changing. Rust factor ( lets face it they are old and in the canadian weather) they always show a pic of the best looking one. Needs paint. Needs to be taken apart and well greased. No lights, no cover/top. No spare... the list can go on and on depends upon your custome needs. For just hauling stuff you can get a killer trailer new 4X8 24" sides all metall new tires for 1000..00 from Carlson.

unless you want one as a collector I would say no you are not...

1/2 of what number? These trailers certainly have a "retail value" in excess of 850 bucks a piece. But I don't know if that means they are worth 850 a piece in lots of 22. See above.

I don't think this is true. They need lights. That is it. There are lots of things that would make nice upgrades (e.g., six lug axles), but they would probably work as is for a long time.

A group build is a great idea if someone could come up with a set of plans good enough to get some bids on.

Wait, didn't BMAN have a set plans? No, he would have let us see them by now. :)

If the price on ebay was 10K I would say maybe to a buy it now. It would cost about 100 each to ship buy truck and about 100 import fees, taxes and to reg. Now you are at 700.00 still not a great wholesale buy IMO

When I am thinking about a build, I am thinking of a number like 1000-5000. ( sorry I think worldwide) :)

I think the interest is there but like you guys I want to touch them before I lay down the $$. If they were in town and you could go see them and kick the tires I think some would you be willing to pay for that. Look what people are willing to pay for M416.

I agree that I would prefer a longer tongue, but I don't think it is unacceptable as is.

I agree, but probably not right away.

Good point, "no rust" in Canada probably means something different than it does here. In fact, the ad actually says "no rust holes" which means they must have some rust.

Still need new tires. No spare. Ball instead of pintle. Probably a four or five lug axle. Wood floor?

I think the current price includes all shipping and associated fees. It wouldn't include things like registration in Arizona, but I think the idea is that 19k gets the trailers to your door, or in our case, BMAN's backyard.

I agree.

I will send the guy an email, ask where the trailers are located. If the auction ends without a winning bidder we could always contact the guy and follow up after the fact. Maybe offer 700 a trailer, which is what they were supposed to cost before.

I would be willing to join as a minority partner in such a transaction, if you wanted, to help spread the risk.

I had all but given up on the Canadian trailer purchase until someone contacted me about the latest offering on eBay. Well, this is probably going to be as good as it gets short of driving up to Canada and picking up one yourself. I'm definitely in for one if you guys can pull together the other 21 buyers. As Jared can attest, these are a good buy compared to what is normally available.

Ok, so is there anybody here who still wants one of these trailers? My brothers I would probably take 3.

As I recall, we had 10 or 11 buyers last time we discussed that. Is that still the case?

Jared

I'm out! I've decided that when the time comes I will build a custom. With business being what it is, I have not yet had any time to fine tune my trailer plans. I do have a frame and box layout but have not yet perfected the tailgate design.

As a follow-up to Jared's (sjpitts) post, we need to make this happen by tomorrow. So, jump in quick if you're interested.
