I own niether, and am curently messing around with an FJ55, but I love the way the 25s look, and they look sooo similar to a 40. Would it just take a couple of custom body mounts?? Or would it be a total nightmare...I have a friend with some 40 frames and a rolling chassis. He doesn't want to part with any of his stuff, but I'm sure if I showed up with a 25 in need of help I could talk him out of some stuff... Don't really need another project right now, but curious if anyone has ever done this, and if I should start keeping my eyes open for a tired 25...

Should be no problem. Biggest deal is the floor pan of the 25 doesn't have the hump for the offset transfer case of th 40. Mine had a FJ40 four speed case in it and all they did was trim a brace. John is doing that with Project Old Fart. '59 and earlier had a different mounting pattern for the front fenders to frame.

If you just want the "look" we can probably get you some round wheel openings and soft-top door openings to weld into a 40. ;) And, if you search you may find a description of how Gene builds a 25 bib. :)

Yeah, if you just like the look I'd just change a few body parts and make a bib.
This is my 40.

If I had an FJ40 I'd most likely leave it alone...But that O.D. green 40 is sweet! My deal is that I may have access to extra running gear for the 40 series, but no body parts. So if somewhere off in the distant future(my 55 will be keeping my hands full for a while and I have another '62 Scout that I would like to do things to) I came across a 25 looking for a new home...
I'll look for project OLD FART and check that out.
Thanks guys.

Not mine. Not A-1's I think its 58 and earlier that have the 3 bolt pattern.

The first FJ25 that I looked at buying was a 59 and it did have the three bolt fenders, must of been a mid year thing. This the only cruiser I seen in person that had this style so I remember the fenders. The body and frame were the only things that were still FJ25. all the running gear was from a 73 FJ40.

Marv has a '59 with the 3 bolt also.

Maybe that's why I like 25's, even when your'e wrong you can be right. :D
