All chains aside: Could a stock truck with the usual 2.5" lift run the skinny 285/75/18's without issue rubbing?

This is exactly what I want to know. Since the TOYO OC AT 2 has been brought into this thread Im considering it more and more 34.8 x 11.3 by far the skinniest tire ( Im currently running 295/75/16 BFG AT).

Sorry for the threadjack Socal Cruiser!

I ran the same chains on my former 315/75R16 MT/R (original version) without a body lift but with 1" front wheel spacers. Body seam pinched down, ~2.5" lift, etc. Toyo MT's are bigger all the way around so Loud is correct with respect to that tire brand and model.

I ran my current tires (285/75R18 GY MT/R Kevlar and Toyo OC AT same size) without a body lift but you will get serious rub on the top area of the inner fender skirt/liner on compression (sans chains). With the same and 1"+ wheel spacers you get steel fender to tire interference on compression. That's the nice thing about the 1" body lift + 10mm spacers (and front Timbren bump stops): Adequate clearance even at full/hard compression. Once you guys, that want to or are running 35" tires, move on to 1" body lift you'll never look back. And I know there is a fair amount of apprehension from some of you about doing the 1" BL but its not that bad as long as you have everything on hand the day you start the job.

I never have adjusted steering to larger radius for any of the nominal 35" tires I've run; but then I did get a little non-consequential rub at the rear side of each front tire when lock turning :meh:.

No worries Spress. I wouldn't be in this dilemma if it were not for you (going to 18s to run BBK). All this info is very helpful.

Have you bought the Stoptech kit yet? You, if the braking differences are similar to what I've experienced, will be completely overjoyed! Even after all this time I still get a grin when I have to panic stop...and there's no "panic" :)

Not yet, thats going to be my x-mas present to myself. I need to take care of cracked heat shield/cat and sort out these tires... but I will have them before the new year for sure.

Been running the Nokians for about a year and a half in Northern Michigan, great on snow, but if I get 25k out of them I will be shocked. Not sure if it just our wonderful roads or the tires are just that soft but don't expect much life out of them.

Help me decide between the two : if YOU had to choose and drive in the winter months in snow

Both 285/70/18

BFG KM2 or TOYO OC M/T

Toyo OC M/T, I run them 285/75/18 in Colorado & we've got much more by way of winter months than Orange County.
