I got a 1 owner 65 Beetle from Cali . (read as no rust ever :grinpimp: )
All stock , just replaced the muffer on it last night .
The old muffer was from 3/86 the "new" one has a 6/79 stamped in it .
I think  it might have been sitting on the shelf for a little while but a  $40 for a NOS German muffer I'm happy with it :bounce:

Its the car I get the most enjoyment out of driving on the back roads on a nice day.

Ya dont waste your money on made in china crap, buy German, buy once.

dbugly,

That raffle bus is the spittin' image of mine that I drove more than ten years through almost every state, into Mexico, and over the Canadian Highway from Vancouver to Toronto! Lotss of women, lots of partying, lots of memories now. I lived in the bus on the Baha beaches for six months with the woman who later became my first future ex-wife.

Mine was a 1961 and had been converted in Canada to a camper with swing open hatch in the roof, all fine varnished wood cabinetry with brass fittings and trim around the oval doors to cooler and cubbyholes.

I sold it for $25. to a junkyard in Scott's Valley, Calif. in 1979. Had bought it in late 1969 for the huge sum of $400.00 with 80,000 miles on it. It had to go because I was commuting 80 miles, working 10 -12 hrs a day in Silicon valley and making too much money to have my time wasted trying to fix an old bus.

Clicking your website was a massive deja' vue trip for me, so I bought tickets. :)

air-cooled...:-)

I've a '70 Ghia...no rust, unmolested nose, newish interior, all stock....DD.

I've got FJ40 envy and might think about selling it. I'm sure I'd regret it...(sigh)....

Agawam! I grew up in Northampton!

Wow! A blast from the past! That was cool seeing Riverside park in the forum. I ws there when they open "the Cyclone" roller coaster - not sure if it's even there anymore.

Any-hoo - just a shout out to W.Mass/Northern Ct. Folk!!

My Dad restified a 63 Karmann Ghia. New paint and interior and a Porsche engine in it, too. Wish I had pics to show.

First car was a 67 bug , that I beat the snot out of and ended up trading it for stereo equipment.

Also had a 60 ragtop bug, all original - drove away from my wedding in that - couldn't afford insurance and it sat until I got an offer on it. Stupidly I took the money - bought a 40 with it though!

First running car was a '61 Beetle. I bought it in 76 when I turned 16 for $50. Then had a 71 bus in college and a '71 Westie poptop that belonged to my dad. I always did like those cars! They were cheap, reasonably reliable in the summer, slow as dogs. They made poor winter cars due to the extremely bad heat, and no A/C for the defrost. My dad's Westie had been better cared for and didn't have the cable sticking problems.

On my 71-the cables that ran the heaters were so rusted in the tubes, I would turn the heat on at the manifold with a hammer in the fall, and turn if off with a hammer in the spring. Water would get in the throttle cable tube and then freeze solid making driving occasionally impossible. It was a great beach vehicle in the summer though. At one time, I thought I would own the bus forever, but after one particularly bad winter (83-84) I got sick of the reliabliity problems, sold the bus and moved to California. I miss the bus, but not the East Coast.

dblugly-that's a beautiful bus-If I owned that, well, I'd still own that. Very nice if you did the restore.
