I know it hasn't been that long, and no one is truly unhappy, but does anyone who added a lift have any regrets? Wished they went with a different brand? Done something differently?

It's only been on for 5 or 6 days now, still getting used to it. It rides softer than it did when stock, that's for sure.

BTW, first post...the lift is an All-pro lift with WE adjustable shocks.

welcome Barnaby! Tell us how the Walker Evans do, I don't think too many people have feedback on them

10-4. I'm hoping to drag it up a few hills this weekend.

My Downey performs awesome have been testing it quite a bit. It articulates as well as expected. No tire rub or binding and all four wheels stay on the ground. Unlike my old taco revtek and leaf suspension.

Did the Downey include an extended brake line and harness for the A-Trac? When I did Downey on my 4Runner, the brake line came with the springs. Also, did you do the rear spring only or spring/spacer combo?

Brake lines for rear came with it. Front didnt need extended . atrac wires seem to be ok. I didnt get rear spring spacers. I am waiting on a winch for allpro bumper. The front is higher than back but its adjustable. I might go with spacers after winch shows up.

great, thanks. I spoke with Downey and am leaning that way, but am also getting ome info. a fellow fj owner here (phoenix) did a spacer lift and said the travel with stock shox was taking a-trac harness to it limit.

I'm confused, how is the atrac wiring at it's limit? The front is routed on the A-arms, there is no way for it to stretch...

From a club thread:

"Just an FYI, I don't claim to be an expert but I was one of the first to do the spacer lift on the rear of the FJ. I ran into issues with the sway bar and the dog bone link that attaches to the axle long before the shocks bottomed out. When dropping the axle, soon after disconnecting the sway bar, the brake lines and wire connections (ATRAC) for the calipers really started to stretch. I'm just not sure that longer travel shocks are going to buy you as much as you think unless some of these other issues are addressed, particularly the sway bar. For that reason I'm still running stock shocks even with the 1.5" lift in the rear.

My $0.02"

I haven't climbed under my FJ yet to scope out the rear set up yet. Its too hot outside...

Hmmm, for all the FJ's that are lifted, this is the first time anyone has mentioned any sort of problem like this. And most of them have more than 1.5" of lift. Any more info?

I love my lift, should have come from the factory like that. The only down side I can think of is the wind seems to blow it around more than it did stock. 3"/285's

Have you noticed an impact to MPG? I did lift and 285's immediately so can't compare..

OK. I'm not going to push any spacific lift company or product, but I feal that it might be good to post some basic FYI stuff when it comes to lifts. This is all based from my personal experiance so take it for what its worth. I don't profess to be a lift specialist. I have put on quite a few lifts on a variety of vehicles and have seen many different lifts on the trial and have been able to wittness there performance. I'm not saying that what I am posting is spacific to every lift, nor is this spacific to FJcruisers, but in general this is what you get when your lifting a vehicle in this manner & what its going to be good for... I know alot of veterans might think this as general knoledge but for those that might be new to the sport this might be good info....

Spacer only lifts

If your looking for a cheep easy lift. Spacers are the way to go.

Down falls: unless you put longer shocks on, your wheel travel will not change, your ride will get rougher, and silly little annoyances can become an every day occurance. For example I know some one that didn't get there extended shocks, everytime they drove into a parking lot with a steep transistion, they would hang a tire (this was NOT on an FJCruiser)...
Also, If your wheeling it allot, it can cause accelerated where on the stock componets (also depends on your driving style, but what doesn't)

If your just looking for some height & good looks & don't mind the querks, spacers are usually fine....

Spacer with Extended shocks

A bit more expensive but generally much better for the vehicle and the components. usually will give you increased offroad performance and avoids all the little querkes of not extending the shocks. Also in some instances, suspension set up like this can retain near stock ride quality..

Down Falls: May ride harsher depending on the suspension set up of the vehicle, Generally doesn't have the perfomance of true replacement springs & shocks (or in the spacific cas of the FJcruiser, coil overs)....

Full replacement springs & shocks.

with bigger lifts, this is the best way to go. Usually provides decent or equal to stock ride quality, is usually designed spacific for offroading & provides excellent performance. Also most take in account the other componets that might have ware issues & replace or upgrade them....

Down Falls: Aaaa, not sure? if anyone can think of any let me know.... I'll add it.
can be expensive I guess?

Full replacement Coil overs shocks, rear springs, & shocks.

There is quite a few of thease out there for the FJCruiser. most of them are adjustable in many ways including height & dampaning. This makes it so the ride can be tuned for optimal performance and makes it so the vehicle can be adusted to ride level...
In general proveds an excellent on road ride & optimal Offroad performance...

Downfalls: Expensive, but thats about it.....

I went from 18.0mpg stock to 15.5 after 3" lift and 285 BFG at's. BUT i've only run one tank of gas through it since the lift. Of course it's a little better than it sounds because with the bigger tires I'm covering more ground per revolution than I was stock.

Don't forget that a top plate spacer is different than just a spacer lift. Otherwise, good, basic, info.
