Hi all, just installed a 1981 BJ40 2B diesel engine on my 1971 FJ40. Vibration is a bit of a problem. Not crazy but you feel the effect on your body after a 4hr trip :/

Wondered if there's an aftermarket item or items that can help reduce the vibration substantially? Thanks in advance.

It shouldnt vibrate like that if all is well with the engine and if enginemounts are correct ones.

Put in a balanced SBC. :)

Mate vibration is just the diesel way. A 6 cylinder will vibrate less.

Is the vibration continuous - does it vibrate while idling stopped and out of gear, or is it most bothersome while going down the road?

If the problem is mostly while going along in gear then I think I'd look at how straight the installation came out, fore and aft. Motor mounts even a little off can cause a ruckus. Are both drivelines installed in synch and did you by any chance have them balanced while they were removed.

There are several possible causes and something wrong with the engine could be one but since this is a new install I think going back over the truck might turn up your solution. Some bolt inadvertently left loose, exhaust hitting somewhere, etc. etc.

If it ends up that the truck just vibrates, well then consider the bright side possibilities. Who knows, there might be some money in it. After all someone pumps quarters into those vibrating beds in sleazy motels and you could be the only Uber driver offering warm up vibes transportation to those places. :)

Diesel vibrates allways, but if it´s mounted on right enginemounts it shouldnt vibrate so that it makes driving uncomfortable. Driveline is one possibility for vibration like Honk said and even unbalaced wheels or bent rims can be the cause. Have you ride your FJ before engine swap and did it run smooth then?
