Around here the only places to charge our Tesla is at camp sites. I have a buddy that tows an rPod with a model X. When he gets to a camp site plugs the camper into 30a and the Tesla into 50a

Isn't charging while towing (by using diesel converted to kinetic energy converted back to electric) kinda ironic? It's probably the highest possible pollution you could have per mile. Even more so than just flat towing an F250.

The alternator is producing electricity anyway so might as well harness that energy

The alternator only produces energy as needed. They're all variable output. Every kwh generated by the alternator comes from diesel fuel being burned in the engine. So you're 40% efficient to the alternator, then probably 70% efficient from there. It's likely in the ball park of getting 10mpg or less direct burn diesel.

The only way that it would be useful would be if it could act as a regenerative braking before the RV brakes apply, but that would require a smart RV that can talk to the tow vehicle. So it's not realistic on any current gen RV. Maybe some day it'll tow behind an electric RV?

I like the idea. But the Tesla semi can't tow a full trailer yet and make it between charging stations. So it's still a long way off before it's actually ready to be converted to an RV. It's not really a functional semi in a meaningful sense other than that it tows an empty cargo trailer around.

hopefully the pick up bed campers could be dropped in the bed for an instant camper on an electric pick up until more sophisticated RV are developed

Up here in Alaska truck toppers are very popular. There are some very nice ones.

I got that email the other day. Awesome. It’s nice to see they see the value in well made ads. It would be nice if Toyota marketed the land cruiser in a similar manor or if Tesla created ads at all.
