so you think its worth that sight unseen? he's asking 5200. how does it work over the phone? if i give him a downpayment, is that usually refundable if i get there and its a total lemon?
also, looking at the free carfax report off the dealers site, there is a mileage discrepancy. should i be worried, or is that common?

All people/dealers are different.
All the info that we see is LEGIT, but I wouldn't drop 5K until I laid hands on it honestly....
$600.... yes.... $5000... NO.
That's a screaming truck and a good price...

no, i respect your opinion greatly. so if you guys say this is a great deal, then i'll call the guy tomorrow and offer him asking price. a few hundred bucks of haggling isn't worth losing a good vehicle when i'm this far away and stuck here till next week.

That mileage is either wrong on the web site or its the wrong carfax (which I doubt). I wouldn't worry about the discrepancy in 04, but the last mileage reading according to car fax was 208k and it was at 137k in 05. I think some one miss typed and it has 227k on it not 127k. That makes more sense for dealer pricing.

there is a picture of the odometer on the dealer listing and it shows 126XXX - I would call them and ask what the deal is. It is priced correctly for a higher mileage truck, but the fact that they posted a pic of the odometer and listed that lower mileage as correct is a huge red flag to me and would make me question anything they said. driver's seat, shifter handle, and steering wheel wear all point to higher miles.
I would consider this truck at this price or a little lower if they had listed it as 200k+ miles with odometer replaced at XXXXXX with XXXX miles driven since replacement actual mileage unknown - or something like that. Their obvious dishonesty worries me. I would still call about it, it still has desirable features and could be a nice truck, but they have some 'splainin to do.

on a similar note, I bought mine off ebay sight unseen against my own advice for a steal by catching the seller shill bidding(bidding up his own items). He was a new seller on ebay and I noticed that the same person was bidding up all of his no reserve auctions. The 80 had just been listed and I wrote him and asked him a question and mentioned I didn't usually buy from ebay because of all of the shill bidding that goes on. He wrote back and asked "what is shill bidding?" and I explained what it was and told him that I read a story(true) that the FBI was getting interested since it was a federal crime. I put in a low bid several days before it closed, was the high bidder, and watched as the auction ticked down and nobody else bid. His account was shut down a few days after I got my truck.

good catch. i didn't see the 207 reading. i just saw the ones around 130K and thought that could be a typo. no way it wasn't driven in the last 5 years.

the lexus looks like it has some rust though.
rust bucket - look at the bolts in the front of the engine compartment. It also has chicago phone numbers listed for the contact.
that blue one looks nice, a little high, but not too bad. for that much money I would want a maintenance history and lockers. I like the blue though, that is rare. I like when they show the original window sticker, like that has any bearing on what the price should be 13 years and 160k miles later.

Would you consider a 100 series? It would really depend on how you wheel it I would think but from what I have read in your post you might like a 100. Just saying that because Roy has one for 9500 with warranty also there is one on Alford with a pretty good history. They are asking 12k for the one on Alford but i think they would take a bit less. I picked it apart one day and the guy was seeming like we would come down a lot.

The one at bookout has really nice leather. It seems like a decent deal. I would try and talk them down a bit mention the 12 mpg on a good day along with summer coming and the gulf. "you won't be able to move that thing until next year". See what happens.

it's possible... I've run across a few cruisers that were an older persons and they pass away and the family lets it sit for years... cruisers are the type of vehicle this happens to alot more than say a civic....
A guy in oregon picked up a CHERRY 92 a few years back that had about 5K on it and hadn't been driven in over 10 years.... The original owner bought it new for his farm and then fell ill and stayed in a nursing home for a decade or so... When he died the family sold all his stuff in the storage.... cleanest 3FE I'd ever seen in my life. I sold the new owner my third row seats but i don;t think he could use them because the truck had the poverty package and no holes for the third row.

i emailed this guy this am, got a reply that its still for sale. says he's been busy with work and thats why he hasn't gotten back to me sooner.

no mention of maint. but at least he knows what he has, for the most part(hint: it does have the locking center differention option, they all do, he just doesn't have the switch to turn it on in high range). I wouldn't get hung up on getting him down all the way to 6k for this truck. Assuming good maintenance, no bubbles in the overflow tank when revved and not puking gear oil out the knuckles I would feel good about anything under his asking price. He is at the higher end of reasonable, but he could probably sell it for asking with a little bit of patience.
