Any Led upgrade for the drl/high beams?

Sometimes the search results in this forum come back in confusing list...where it is not clear what part of the results to click next. Even after years here, I find it clunky and confusing.

So... I hit the search and typed led low beam and limited the search to this 200 forum (can be done by clicking the “More...” button after hitting the tiny magnifying glass icon at upper right).

I got the thread that included the following links (which are the same lights I installed on my 08. Super happy with them...

ARB IPF H11 LED Headlight Bulbs, 6500K - Pair
ARB IPF 9005/9006/HB3/HB4 LED Headlight Bulbs, 6500K - Pair

Thanks Markuson
i did a search and was confused, which is why i posted. the lights you linked in the post will with run are the high beams/DRL
and will have a nice bright led daytime light and get brighter for the high beams?

I have both the highs and the lows.
I think the older units couldn’t handle DRL, but these absolutely can and do...and without blinking or flickering.

So yes. Highs work as DRLs.

Thanks for providing these links @Markuson . I was just reading another headlight upgrade thread earlier today, and was wondering what would work for my 2010. This looks like just the ticket, thanks!;)

Don’t be fooled if you first turn them on before it’s truly dark. Some folks were so used to seeing the itty bitty bright spot created by their old bulbs that they feared these weren’t illuminating as much. Not true! It’s just that these spread the light so smoothly that the yellow hot spot we’re used to isn’t there.

Best indicator I can think of was my passenger saying from the driver’s seat, “They must have put in new freeway lane reflectors!”

The reflectors were’t new at all. It was just my new low beams hitting ALL the the freeway’s reflectors at once!! Then I flipped the brights on and it was, “Woah!” ;)

Thanks
so are the low beam leds worth the upgrade? i have hid low beams now?
on another note i need a battery will the cables reach on the center posts of a
group 31 interstate?

I went with the IPF LED high beams on my 2013. Extremely bright compared to OEM. In DRL mode you can I a little flicker when driving into my garage.
I also want IPF LED amber for the fog light. They blend well with the OEM low beam.

Interesting that you get flicker.
I wonder if the new lights on the 13+ just had electrical characteristics that were different enough from the 08-12 that it flickers?

I've been meaning to look at the wiring diagram for the headlights, to see what changed in '13. There is no resister mounted on the inner fender just behind the pass side headlight in the later trucks, I know there was one in my '11. I'm wondering if the newer trucks are using a pulse modulation system to reduce the brightness of the high beam bulb when in DRL mode. Either that, or the voltage applied is right at the cutoff level for the LED, which could make it flicker.

Yup. The way I see it the slight flicker will get the attention of on coming driver’s sooner. If they can see it. Like I said while in the garage I can see it on the wall. Not outside during the day. I don’t think it’s a deal breaker.

I put the IPF led bulbs in my high beams/DRLs and had the strobe effect. The strobe effect was so bad that people in front of me regularly moved or blocked their rear view mirrors at stop lights. I found this harness/relay kit that basically runs the bulbs on high during DRL operation. The only concern I had with this harness was the connector pins were reversed where it plugged into the factory harness not allowing the bulbs to operate. I simply had to de-pin the connector and reverse the wires. Works great and no more flicker.
