After reading this site on an off for a few years, I am finally taking the plunge and buying a 2000 black LC, with 56K miles from CarMax in Irving. They claim is is 100% clean inside and out with no scratches. It is being shipped from Fort Lauderdale right now. I used to have 1973 fj40 when I lived in Jakarta, Indonesia and miss not having a LC.

Here's my question. They offer a 3yr/36,000 mile extended warranty for about $1599. I have seen a few mixed reviews on CarMax's warranty performance. I wanted to here from the experts if its worth it on this model. BTW - I am only going to drive it about 5,000 miles per year, and I live in Dallas.

Thanks!

P.S. I am trading in an X5 i bought new, for this. I am sick of dirty looks when I pull into the gun range on weekends.

With that few miles and with only driving it 5k or so miles a year I would pass on the warranty.

But it's up to you. Even if your starter goes out on you it won't cost as much as that warranty.

I bought an Acura NSX from CarMax. I wouldn't get the warranty, the cost of the warranty will pay for the 5 year 90K mile timing belt water pump service you need to do when you get the 2000 LC. I bought a 99 last year, AZ vehicle with 58K miles. I had the timing belt and water pump done right after I got it and the water pump was starting to weep and the belt might of lasted another 20K miles but it would not of made it to the 90K mile interval. Mine lived in a very hot dry environment, that the up side is that the underside looked new no rust issues but the downside the rubber belts and hoses take a extra beating. Just a head-up and don't try and go for the 90K mile interval on this critical service with such a low mileage vehicle. Toyota sets this interval a 5 year "OR" 90K miles. You local Toyota dealer should do this service along with a new serpentine belt for around $800-900. You will also be due for a front wheel bearing repack and I would change all of the driveline fluids to synthetic and have the transmission serviced. All that work should equal what CarMax was going to charge you for the warranty and you will be good to go. Congrats on the LC.
