I was let down by a Land Cruiser for the first time in 12 years of ownership last night. My 200 left me stranded - luckily only 1 mile from home.

The other day I used my physical key to unlock the truck because the truck wasn't responding to the key fob. The security light has been flashing the two times I've driven it since then, and last night when I got back to my truck the push start button was totally unresponsive.

Key fob still locks/unlocks car - so I think that it still has juice. Putting the toyota logo on button does nothing. Interior lights still work and I tried a jump - so I think battery is decent. Brake lights work - so I assume brake is engaging correctly.

I read about turning the physical key to unlock for 30 seconds, in order for anti-theft to recognize the key, but that didn't do anything.

Also read on here about 100 series having a fuse box issue that sounds similar, any reports of that happening on 200's?

Mine is a 2008 with 205K.

Thanks!

Have you tried putting the fob against the starter button?

Does your 2nd key work?

I've tried putting the fob against the started button, and no change. Just tried a second key fob, with brand new battery, no change.

It's so locked down I can't get it out of gear.

Maybe try disconnecting the battery, wait a few minutes, then reconnect and see if it resets everything?

I’m having a similar problem….replaced the battery and managed to engage the anti theft system.

Now I need to circumvent it.

So my first thought: the order in which you engage the battery terminals could be meaningful. I luckily engaged the positive first, then negative and it clearly went through a cycling process where it connected all of the circuits to the various

But inside the vehicle, everything sort of lights up. You will get a few error messages but they will toggle on/off as you turn off the key. The locks work, the nav system works and you can change gears. But the problem is, the ignitition button is totally unresponsive. That's the crux of the problem. You'll know you've engaged the anti-theft system rather than a bad battery or faulty starter or ignition switch if the ignition switch gives you no feedback when you press it. That means, no cranking, no change of lights other than the switch and no response on the dashboard systems. So if that is unresponsive(key), then you're tripped the anti-theft. The vehicle assumes you're either stealing the vehicle or that you've changed the battery in an attempt to steal the vehicle. So the next step is to

Note: You should see a blinking red (standalone) light under the nav system that determines that the anti theft sytem is engaged.

At this juncture, I did two things which I think were critical. But also worth a mention, make sure the key fob has an updated/fresh battery.

First step: Take the key out of the fob and insert it into the door lock. Turn to the right and lock/unlock the vehicle. Reperform this step 3-4 times. Do so outside the vehicle with the door shut. You should hear a series of beeps(approx 3) when you exit the vehicle. Using the key should engage the lock system easily.

Second step. After locking/unlocking the vehicle, step back from the vehicle with the key fob in hand. Wait approximately five minutes and attempt to unlock the doors using only the key fob.

When that works, you should have reset or circumnavigated the anti theft system. Now try starting the vehicle from the ignition switch.
