The new wife just doesn't understand...

I finally got my dream cruiser project. Left hand steer HJ61 imported by JDM Cruisers from the Canary Islands (next to Morocco, owned by Spain). 12H-T turbo diesel, 5 spd, factory cable lockers, full floating rear end. It needs a lot of work to be reliable again and de-rusted. Unbelievable difference in power. I tried some 35's on it and it freeways and pulls hills like no cruiser I have ever been in. Estimating I should get around 27mpg highway keeping 4:11 ratio.

My plans: frame off (but not to be super pretty like the FJ45 was), remove rust (not much compared to most 60s I have seen), take the rear bumper and cage from my 60, cut rear quarters and rockers like my 60 and install high as possible sliders, dual transfer case, replace all most rubber and seals, rebuild or replace alt, turbo, misc engine and drive train parts, paint will be a light sand color with a white top, snorkel is on it's way. Soon to have 35 BFG mudders and new rims on Alcan springs 2.5" plus 2.5" over shackles from Cool Cruisers. Add dual swing aways to the bumper and carry 1 tire, and tools on the other. Won't have a top rack on this one (able to garage it) and no longer concerned about fuel with a 400 to 600 mile range depending on conditions.

Huge thankyou to the guys at Cross Counrty Cruisers.

Duke there is very cool and helped me a lot to get the DMV under control. Considering I didn't get one of his (he has a very hard time keeping any in stock) he was very cool. I recommend anyone wanting to get a cruiser from another counrty for California talk to Duke first.

Thanks Dom. Did you ever find a 62 for an efi 3f? I might be interested in some body parts if you ever do find one.

Tim - Yeah, it was only 3 years but when you reel in a keeper, you don't dare throw it back or let it jump back into the ocean!

Noah - It is normally at the shop. Come by when you can... call first.
