Ok I am thinking about making the switch to Mobil 1 from royal purple. Which Mobile 1 are you using and what weight?
Thanks!

Weight should be 5W-30, if you're following Toyota's recommendation.

I use the extended performance version...more anti-wear additives. You can check the M1 website for specifics.

5W-30. Mobil 1 extended performance is guaranteed for 15k/1 year oil change intervals. Good prices on Mobil 1 at Walmart.

Regular Mobil 1 5W-30 for me. I stock up when it goes on sale at Costco a couple times a year for $26 a case. It's nice because I use it in all of my vehicles.

M1 5w30 EP is really high quality oil. If you are into synthetics this is what you want.

Same as above - M1 5x30 EP at Wally World.

Assuming the same 1 year / 3-5k mile OCI, is the EP really worth the extra $1.15 / qt? I would never benefit from the extended part of EP.

At that interval, probably not.

Here's a comparison from Mobil Oil's website showing the differences between the various types of oil.

I change oil every 5k.....5w-30 Castrol/Pennzoil for me.

Need to keep an eye when Mobil-1 goes on sale.

Where can I buy a oil filter wrench?

I've used Mobile 1 for a long time. No complaints. Recently I switched to Pennzoil ultra platinum synthetic 5w30 (made using fischer-tropsch synthesis of natural gas). Both are great.

Every autoparts store you can name will have an oil filter wrench available for ~$10-15

Just saw some nice oil filter wrenches at my local hardware store that fit on a socket wrench so hardware store might be a good place to check if auto store isn't close. I'd think those socket style wrenches would be best. I've tried most of the other styles and don't use then anymore since they are pretty worthless. I personally hand tighten oil filters so never need a wrench (unless changing oil on a vehicle where I didn't change the oil last). That's not the proper method but I've never run into problems.

With 3-5k OCI any synthetic should be fine. The extra cost of M1 EP would make sense for 10k+ OCI imo. I'd also use EP if I was driving very little per year and only wanted to change oil once per year.

As long as you can gain another half to three-quarters of a turn, once the filter gasket makes contact with the adapter, you are gtg. Not a problem with my LX especially with nitrile gloves.

If you're shopping for a socket-type filter wrench, bring a filter with you as number and od of flutes may differ between filter brands.

I like a longer filter...Mobil 1 M1-209 or NAPA Gold equivalent. More media and easier to grab by hand or with a wrench.

I called my local Toyota dealership and they have it for $5.

That's what I have been told by so many people. If I don't tighten enough......I have a bad feeling......while driving all my oil draining out of the engine.

Have been using amsoil 5w20 for the last four years. Seems new factory recommendations go for that weight. Just change at reasonable intervals. 5w20, 5w30 and 5w40 do fine depending you your climate.

Everyone has a personal preference.

@echoack

The fram filter I bought said to hand tighten one turn past resistance. Didn't use a wrench on it.

I personally like the adjustable band type filter wrench because it has so many other uses besides one specific filter. My wife's camry requires one of the socket style, but if you can get away with it go with the multi-size/multi tool.

Yesterday, at the Toyota dealership, bought this oil wrench for $3.39.
