Hello,

After years of sitting on the sidelines I finally picked up a 96 LX450 2 weeks ago.

I am going to do a HG job as PM in the next couple months and was curious if you guys could recommend a shop to get the head re-surfaced and a valve job. Also looking for a recommendation for getting the injectors cleaned. I just moved the family here from Oklahoma less than 1 year ago, so I am still learning the area.

Thank you in advance for your help. I am looking forward to meeting you guys and learning the area.

Jason

Welcome, what area are you in??

Greetings! Take a look at the schedule (2009 ONSC Club Officers and other Information) and see what events you'd like to join us on. Meetings on the second Sunday of every month swapping between Charlotte, Triangle, and Triad. Post up if you need any work done to host a Help a Member of the Month...

Welcome to the NC version of the addiction.

Welcome Jason! You're the 2nd Oklahoman (?) in the club, strong_toy is one of your homies. Hope you can make it out to meet us!

I am looking forward to meeting up with you guys, especially for mountian and beach rides because there aren't any in Oklahoma. I lived in Florida for a few years, but they tend to frown on beach driving.

I am not sure how much hard wheeling I will do as I plan on taking the family. I will keep an eye on the rides and try to look for something that looks family friendly and stock ride friendly. Do you guys have any other beach trips lined up?

I may get into the harder trips later once I have the time/money to get the fzj 80 mods done.

Thanks again

No planned beach trips, but there are mutliple people that are usually up for an impromptu ride. Family friendly and stock ride friendly is in Sept. at Uwharrie National Forest, something for everyone, even people that have never wheeled before :p

Howdy Jason,

Good to see another Okie in the mix. We've been here three years and love the area. Plus we've got a good group of guys and gals in the club.

A stock 80 can get you through most of the trails in NC (except probably Tellico) with good spotting or a little tug here and there (no problems with either if on club rides). If you've got factory lockers it's a night and day improvement. Most folks agree that 80's are one of the best factory wheelers in world.

We've got several families in the club that wheel. My wife and kids come on all the trips. I think my kids spend half the time watching movies, and my daughter likes to complain about the "bumps", but they have fun.

You should try to come to the Brown Mountain / Linville Falls trip this month. The trails should be extremely tame and we should have a good cross section of the club there.

As far as beach driving, besides the OBX, it's an easy day trip down to Fort Fisher where you can drive on the beach. It's a $10 daily pass or I think a $50 yearly pass and you can stay away from the crowds on the other area beaches.

Definitely good to see another Okie. I was begining to think I might be the only one.

Brown Mountain/ Linville sounds like the perfect ride and family trip.

For the FZJ 80 guys on here, this head gasket issue has consumed me with fear. I would love to make trips like this, but I feel I need to do this as PM before I get out somewhere and can't make it back, especially with 3 kids (one of them 3 weeks old) and a dog. I will most likely sideline for a little while until I get this done.

I have ordered a FSM, Doug's HG video, and I am now putting together a parts list to submit to Dan. I hate to make excuses but I would rather play it safe.

Thanks again

I just bought one with 128K, and feel your fear. I know it's something to keep an eye on. I originally bought the 80 for my wife, but I've been driving it in order to kind of get a baseline on it. There is a lab that will test your oil, to see if you're getting any coolant into it and I'll send it to them.

There is one right off Dixon Street in Cary, we have all our equipment samples monitored there, very reasonably priced.

Sorry for the hijack, but do you have any details on the lab's name and possible price for oil analysis? I've been running oil analysis on our 80 and 100 with Blackstone in Indiana and the price is about $20 per.

I believe we pay between $10-$15, but keep in mind we have around 65 pieces of equipment and do samples on all fluids. I think they can do it for around $25-$30 a sample.
