Found a length (at least two feet) of RG-58 cable in footwell area of front passenger side of the 80. Connector is not the type you could attach to a TV's cable attachment--it is smaller in diameter. I followed the cable and it disappears into the extreme upper right section of the dashboard (basically up and to the right of the glove box) and I can't follow it from there without removing panels.

Appears to have been there some time...if you look closely at the photo right above the connector end, there in the background there are grooves pressed into the black material that covers the transmission hump.

Truck has OEM stereo.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Previous CB install? I ran my antenna cable up behind the ECU/glove box and trhough and existing rubber plug. The plug is just OB of the diagnostic port on the pre OBD-II trucks. IIRC it had one wire bundle and two nipples unused. Can I say that here? :D

I thought that myself but don't CB's use RG59 with that big barrel connector? Well, mine does to my Midland CB. In fact that's why I was in there, looking to mount up a new Firestik.

Odd also how it goes up behind the glove box. I thought maybe it was a cable to a now-gone rear subwoofer or the rear speakers. Any more thoughts?

Ah! I'll check and see if it goes through that hole--didn't think of that.

Mobile phone?

One of the various satellite radio (XM, Sirius, etc) antennas?

Dan, Doug, that's probably it. One of those.

Dan is right, it is a coax cable for an aftermarket car phone. The 93-94 FZJ's I just parted out both had those cables under the carpet. In fact the 93 still had the phone mounted in it but it was not hooked up. I could send it to you for nostalgia purposes if you want it:flipoff2: ......HAHAHA!
