Hi all,

My wife and I just moved to Los Alamos from East Texas. We are planning on joining High Desert Cruisers, and plan to come to the January Meeting to meet everyone. I just wanted to say Hi and let everyone know who we are.

We drive a SASed '87 4-Runner:

Hope to get to know New Mexico rock crawling.

howdy! this is Shawn that emailed you the info about the club. that is a sweet rig! not a ton of rock crawing here, but we hope to get the club to Farmington soon. you will like the snow too, if you haven't tried it. we have some ledgendary snow runs.

the official 'mud' welcome...:flipoff2:

by the way, your 4runner looks a lot like Matt's (another member). I forget his user name here. hopefully he'll chime in soon.

oh, and there's a trail near Santa Fe called Tank Trap that you will like. we need to do another run there anyway.:grinpimp:

Nice 4Runner - We had an '85 that color and loved it. I'd put the top back on before New Years if you want to go on the run!

Jon, he has a 4Runner, not an 80. Any more proper intro? Shawn started it already.

Thanks, I got the top on right now. I am definitely glad I have a heater in that thing. And to think I spent so much time in TX getting the AC working, and now I am here with a foot of snow in my back yard. It's only been a week and I love NM.

Welcome! We look forward to meeting you at the January meeting, but come on out for the New Year's Day Snow Run if that works for you.

I would love to go on the new years day snow run but we are doing Christmas with my in-laws over new years.

I did drive down into Rendija Canyon yesterday and got stuck in 1.5ft of snow. :whoops: It was my first time wheeling in the snow. I had a blast but think it would be more fun with more trucks so I could do a little less digging.

Definitely a good idea to go with a group. We get plenty of stuck but have other trucks, tow straps, winches, etc. to get rolling again...

and then get stuck some more!

Evan

P.S. Sorry you can't make it for the New Year's Run, but we should have more throughout the spring. Keep an eye on this list for more details.

Did you get by the shooting range? How was the climb back up? A neat run up there is down Rendija Canyon and up Guaje, coming out by the golf course. (I would say coming out by the cemetery, but golf course sounds better...) We did that a year and a half ago, I think it was. Not recommended in the snow :)

Hi-welcome! Nice 4Runner. You didn't waste your time on the A/C it gets plenty warm here, not Texas style, but warm enough! Hope to meet you at the next meeting.

running in snow is definitely different than rock crawling. it's a whole other wheeling skill set. but once you get the hang of it, well...you just go for deeper snow and still get stuck.:hillbilly:

Yeah we went past the shooting range. We then turned left into Guaje Canyon and then tried to drive up the Jeep trail to come out by the cemetery but got stuck in the snow. The road gets deep and the snow piled up. It was about 1.5ft deep, it was over the top of my axles!!:eek:

I ended up driving all the way back out. It was definitely a fun drive, and the scenery is magnificent.

And just in case nobody has told you, Jeep is just as bad of a 4-letter-word as other more well known 4-letter-words around here.

we get into some good deep stuff at times. this is in the Jemez mtns. my tires in this pic are 36" swampers, pushing snow with the bumper. of course it all depends on whats the consistency of the snow and whats below it. :D

Yeah...sorry about that. I just quoted the USGS map on my wall. Someone should complain they are discriminating against other more capable 4x4's. :D

BionicCruiser...that is some DEEP snow. I have definitely never driven in anything that deep.

Well I talked to my wife and I think I'm going to take the day off of spending time with inlaws to come up wheelin for the new years day snow run. Yippee.

Sounds great - I'd take that trade any day.

Interested in Joining the group

Hi, I was hoping to tag along for the ride on new years day. I have a 2007 FJ Cruiser (4wd). Not a whole lot of experience though.

Is is ok to bring small children (6yrs old)?
