I've been reading through threads for the past 5 hours trying to figure out which way to go. Have a '98 LX w/ 245k miles and rear shock decided this was too much mileage. At this point I'm going to rip out the AHC. Obviously, w/ this much mileage I'm trying to keep the cost down.
It's my wifes daily driver, totally stock and only do beach type trails.
Was looking at replacing w/ OEM parts but the Ironman kit TOY050BKG is cheaper. However, this comes w/ a 1.5" lift and I really don't need a lift. With this amount of lift is a diff drop really necessary?
Any other replacement ideas out there?
I did check the classifieds and came up empty.
Thanks

A diff drop is only necessary with a lift of 2" or more to rectify the increase cv angle.
It is always goodto keep this angle at a minimum, but with 1.5" lift you shouldn't be in any trouble.

if you rarely go offroad...dont want larger tires then source Land Cruiser shocks and springs.

if you go with ironman...it says 1.5 but mine is closer to 2 inches really....i put a diff drop on for preventive security.

either way you will be happy with but if not missed offroad suspension and larger tires then should be able to source four shocks yourself....and then get a set of Land Cruiser springs from someone upgrading theirs to an offroad suspension. Even call a few of the better known Land Cruiser shops...Slee, ACC, Iron Pig, Proffits, etc....to see if they have any springs laying around if trying to save money.

Yes you need new torsion bars, the AHC bars are not as stiff and won't work without the AHC shocks.

The cheapest route would be to source parts here from 'mud. I have stock springs for the rear if you want them, I'm sure someone has stock torsion bars they'd let go of.

Do I need new torsion bars if I'm not lifting?

i would recommend changing TB as well...they are different size than regular LC suspension setup.....but should be able to get them all for decent price if not wanting a lift.

check those places I mentioned above..... most of time people throw them away or turn to scrap. Guy here has LC and pulled it all out to put in lift.....contact BBQ_Boy to see if he kept them or left them at shop. HE hangs out here and in Swamp Fox club forum.
