Hi All
Been lurking and searching about a new noise that is coming from my LX450. Have not found anything that has made sense yet. Here is what I have:
97 LX450 168K non locked
Noise almost sounds like valves "clinking" or slight metal clinking. I can hear it clearly with the windows down and the vehicle is under load. The noise is coming from the drive train under the passenger area.
My first thought was a heat shield that was loose on the exhaust, found a hanger that was loose and fixed it. Still had the noise.
I put it in park and revved the engine and heard nothing.
I put it in drive and put my foot on the brake and put it under load and heard nothing.
It seems to happen as the car is taking off and if I floor it while it is cruising.
That's about all I know... It has happened within the last 2 weeks.
Here is the work I have done recently on the vehicle - I hope I didn't screw something up...
I changed the trans-axle fluid and used the 75w90 - this is correct right? I drained and filled it till the fluid was coming out the fill plug. When I heard the noise I went back to check it because it seems that the noise is coming from the drive train - A cup came out of the fill plug when I opened it - is this normal?
I lubed the u joints and the drive shaft. I know I did the u joints correctly. I think I over filled the drive shaft because I put about 10 - 15+ squirts in each, I was waiting for it to come out of the fitting. I read that this was wrong... I took off the zurk and waited to see if some would squirt out and it didn't.
I have done the drain and fill on the transmission fluid with the last 3 oil changes.
I have drained and refilled both differentials
Any ideas, thoughts or things to look at would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ben
