About a year ago I posted my build of a second row dog platform for our Pyrenees (since then I made one for the other LC and the 4Runner).
We drive to CO almost monthly, and this next time my bride said that we are taking the cats. Yes, pleural. Soooo, decided to build a platform in the rear so they could have some room and we could store luggage below. Inspired by other builds here and the ARB drawers on our older LC I came up with this:
As you can see, the criteria was it needed to be modular and relatively easy to disassemble and store.
Here are all of the final parts. All carpeted. Getting really good at that BTW! Everything bolts together with 1/4” bolts (Allen) and T-nuts. The rear base is secured by a strap to the baby seat cleat behind the second row.
All of the top top panels bolt on as well. The front bases bolt to the third row mounting site with a custom bracket I fabricated.
The height of the platform is about 1/2” lower than the ARB drawers. Plenty of storage room underneath.
Now for the cat part…
Anyways, scored some valuable husband points here! Next post will be the DIY divider to keep the cats back there.
DIY 2nd Seating Row Dog / Utility Platform
We recently adopted a Great Pyrenees who is a phenomenal dog and a great traveling companion. She goes everywhere with us, and with ski season here I’ve been looking for a commercially available back seat extender/platform so our huge dog could be more comfortable in the 2nd row. Unsatisfied...
