Purchased an '89 a few months ago from Landcruisers Direct. After dealing with rust issues with my 40, this one was my choice because of its essentially without any rust condition.
I'm thinking my first major mod will be a suspension lift. There is a lot of info on 40 and 80 series lifts and I've done both without too much of trouble. I don't see much tech info on 70 series lift. Is the 70 series install much different than a 40?

That looks like a RHD jap import with its original 26 year old sagged out springs, I've always liked the 70 series old man emu suspension it lifts things up nicely without going overly too high and articulates well for standard replacement leaf springs, the old man emu dakkar springs I put in my FJ75 12 years ago are sitting up nice and high the same as the day I installed them I haven't experienced any sag, the OME shocks I put in were second hand and are still operating perfectly, my experience is that stuff works well and has a good long service life, you guys probably have a far greater range of products to choose from than us down here but I guess not so much for the 70 series. If your looking at putting a really high lift in it you want to look at widening the track as well they are a bit on the narrow side and lose stability when you start lifting too high

Hello,

As already mentioned, 20+ year springs have already sagged.

Get either an OME or a Dobinsons kit.

There are a couple threads on lifts here. Search OME suspension on this forum.

Things naturally sag with age. One of many reasons you don't see old women featured in the "Playboy" centerfold.

;)

Exactly my point.

A few years ago I turned down a PZJ70 that was all sagged out. The previous owner had added a huge bull bar, 10000 lb winch and other stuff but kept the factory suspension. And he wheeled the truck hard with that setup.

By the time it was for sale the front tyres rubbed on the fenders on every turn. Maybe the rear ones rubbed as well; I never bothered to find out.

Congrats on the new purchase! I put an OME lift on my truck and it rides fine. I would strongly suggest you consider the Terrain Tamer suspension, if for no other reason than the great support you'll get from @wardharris and @canamcruisers

I'm not sure if many folks have experience driving a truck with both setups, but I'd be very curious to know.

Thanks Ben, we are trying to deliver a positive experience. You would be most welcome at the Alabama round up in late September! :)

Thanks for the replys. I'm going to talk with Terrain Tamers and Cruiser outfitters before I make a decision.

Decided on the Terrain Tamer via Ward Harris and Beno. My experience was good. The installation was straightforward.
Finally rolled it out today. As far as the ride, I left the bottom leafs off and the ride is a bit softer than the 25 year old stock.
