Excuse me if this has been beat to death. Looking to buy fluid for front/rear diffs and transfer case. Is the Amsoil severe gear worth it or is there a better fluid for a 120k gx?

The other fluid that people seem to use is mobil 1 75w90. I just bought a case of 7 quarts of sweezebag amsoil pouches. I figured it is rated highly enough I would give it a go. WIth that said, I have no direct personal experience yet other than the 7 quarts cost me $120 or so shipped.

Definitely worth it, especially now that they have the squeezebags. It's all I've ever run in my diffs and transfer cases - 3 Tacomas and 1 GX. The fluid change intervals are so long the price difference is negligible.

What are you using as your fluid change interval? 30k?

I change the diffs/Tcase by years, as in every few years I remember to change it (my records show 50K+ on most changes). The Amsoil comes out almost looking like new and then I question why I even bothered to change it....

Vehicle is new to me so, as I always do first change fluids. Since I've joined here I keep hearing amsoil. Severe gear 75w90 for t case and diffs? Manual calls for 85w90? In diffs and have interweb folklore of synthetic causing leaks on higher mileage rear ends. So wanted to clear that up before I buy some off their website.

Amsoil is a top tier gear fluid company. Other boutique brands include Redline, Shaeffers, Renewable Lubricants. All of these should be good for 50k+ miles.

I have Redline in now but will switch to Amsoil bc of the squeeze bags - will be so much easier.

If you are looking for off the shelf, Mobil is always a favorite but anything from any reputable brand will suffice - Pennzoil, Castrol, SuperTech just might need to change at lower mileage.
