In the past two weeks I decided to buy an LC. I am looking for an '08 with (ideally) less than 35k on the clock. Of course, I want all of the 'bells & whistles' but can live w/out them.

Is it realistic to think I can get this car for ~$47k? I will buy from any state & ship back to CA. Local dealers here want $55k for a 40k/mi base car.

Any tips? I am looking on Craigslist & Autotrader (as is everyone else I suppose!).

Seems '07's are easily had for what appears to be decent values. Is the '08 "such" a better car or is the new style ('08 vs. 07) driving demand?

Thanks in advance and great info on this stie!

The 08+ did start with a much higher price. they're in short supply too. 47K is unrealistic in my opinion. I wouldn't sell mine for that. Isn't KBB around 65K?

I think my best bet is private party and offer just above trade in. Depending on the source of the data, I think that should be ~$45-$47k in good condition.

Now I just need to find one.

Personally, I think you'll be hard pressed to find one for that price. I just checked the trade-in on KBB for an 08 with UP and 25k miles. Good trade-in value is a little over $51k. Excellent condition bumps the price to $54k and private party is between $54k and $57k.

I'm guessing if you were to buy within the next month, the best price you'll find is low $50's on an 08 with 40k+ miles. That said, the best value I saw listed on Autotrader is this one in Torrance: 08 LC w/ UP, 18k miles, $54k. Everything else I saw on Autotrader was more than this with higher miles. At least it's somewhat "local" for you too (no need to ship, just fly down and drive it home).

As others noted, the 08's are in fewer supply and that's keeping prices up there. These have never sold in the quantities of a Range Rover, Escalde, or Sequioa and the pricing reflects this. And remember, unless someone is outright selling their LC and have no plans on replacing it, an offer of just above trade-in isn't that enticing. Here in my state, sales tax is just under 9% so trading in my car I would save paying over $4k in taxes (assuming a trade-in value of $47k). So selling it to a private party I would need to get at least $51k to break even. If someone offered me what the dealer offered, I'd simply laugh and wish them well in finding their new LC. Just my 2 cents.

Good luck and let us know when you get one!

Interesting; that car (and a blue LC) were on the CarMax lot in Ft. Lauderdale last week. The blue one is gone. I called the rep and they do not negotiate price and would ship it out for a test drive for ~$950. Maybe they shipped it to a more in-demand location.

I've recently seen two low mile '08's for under $50k on AutoTrader; one in SoCal at a Toyota dealer ($45k). He said the pricing was an error. This weekend one showed up at Haddad Toyota for $46,3 so I call. He says its an error and they are working to correct it (he also said it was his seventh call on it that day...all dealers). The ad is still up w/the "incorrect" price three days later Cars for Sale: 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 in Pittsfield, MA 01201: Sport Utility Details - 288265969 - AutoTrader.com

I sense it a common practice.
