It truly is a demon that you have to see to believe.

I did new steel patch panels in my rear quarters when I got the truck. Stripped to bare metal, new steel, welded, seam sealed, ppg primer and paint.


3 years later...

all new steel. the panels rusted out at the seams.

the last 55 I stripped was so rusty that the spring perches had rusted through and collapsed. Softball sized holes in the frame, last 10" of the frame were gone. Literally.
Frightening to say the least.

The good side of rust is that plow trucks with less than 80K original on them sell all the time for $300 or less.
Mechanical parts are easy to come by. Just not bodies.
That 55 had around 70K on it. My 67 had 30K orig when the P.O. bought it for $1000 running with a plow.

I am supposed to be buying a running/driving FJ60 next week for $200. Won't pass inpection due to rot.
