Has anyone swapped from an external VR to an Internal VR, I am just wondering what wiring I will need to do to bypass the external V/R

is it just jumpering the wires at the VR?

I have a 71 with 3 wires total 2 to a plug and one terminal end that goes to B on the alt

Thanks

Red wire connects to the cricket...

Bump for 'ya. I'll be doing the same with mine so I'll be watching this thread.

when i did mine i didnt bother using any factory wiring a new large cable direct from alternator output to the battery

and really it depends on the alternator wiring 1 wire will go via a globe on the dash to a +12v ignition source

most IR alaternators require a 12v switched power wire. this can be done by jumpering two terminals at the voltage regulator wiring harness plug, and figuring out which wires need to be jumpered so that 12v switched ends up at the alternator. Simple, and should take a few minutes to figure out.

Depending on the output of the IR alternator, it may not be smart to run the stock charging wire, as its only 10ga and good for maybe 40 or so amps continuous.

Be done did it

Get the appropriate wiring diagrams. Find your regulator on the firewall & disconnect the plug. Remove reg & put it on the shelf with the old alternator. Turn on your ignition & find the lead in the plug that illuminates your test light. Run a wire from that to field lead on the internal reg alternator. Connect battery lead to bat terminal - mark it before removal from old unit. You're done.
