Alternate Tire Size

I am sourcing a set of 4 tires for my 80. Currently it has 270/70/16...I can get my hands on a set of 265/65/16 very reasonably priced, but will that work on the rim? The guy I spoke with said absolutely, I just want to be sure before moving ahead. He even said I could go 265/75/16 if I wanted.

A 270/70-16 is about 30.9" in diameter (and an odd size, BTW). A 265/65 is only about 29.5 (and a little small, IMHO). The 265/75 is closer to your original at 31.6" or so. So is a 275/70 at 31.2". Any of these will "fit" fine on a factory 8x16 wheel. What size is your spare? There would be some logic in matching that size in the event you ever needed to use it...

yes it will work, get the 265/75r16 and get 5 of them.
