Due to an overwhelming response to our build thread, and a resulting flood of PM's:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/592787-rear-bumper-design-build.html

Stainlessdoctor and I have decided to build a few of these, on a per-order basis.

I realize this bumper isn't for everyone. If you're a rock crawler, you'll probably want something that requires removal of your stock rear crossmember. If you're a fabricator, you'll probably build something yourself! :flipoff2:
Kidding aside... If you're looking for a well thought-out rear bumper with all the bells & whistles, and will settle only for the highest of quality, then this bumper is for you.
Plenty of features to compliment your overland adventures, and the strength to protect your 80 when you need it most.

Pricing/Options are as follows:

Base bumper (available for flareless 80s as well) - $1400
Base bumper includes tail lamps (Hella), recovery points, receiver hitch, mounting hardware, spindles (capped), all fixtures for adding swing-arms, provision for air quick-disconnects

Tire Carrier (adjustable from 33" tire to 38") - $700
Tire carrier includes spindle kit with roller bearings/seal/hardware, 2000lb latch, UHMW latch pad, integrated receiver for optional accessories, wheel studs/nuts, gas strut

Cooler/Fuel Can Rack - $700
(Holds standard 45qt cooler or 3x MFCs)
Cooler/Fuel Carn Rack includes spindle kit with roller bearings/seal/hardware, 2000lb latch, UHMW latch pad, integrated license plate mount, license plate light, gas strut

More options below:

Black Powdercoat - $300

Rear Quarter/Tail Light Protection - TBA

Rear Winch - TBA

10lb Propane Tank Holder (receiver accessory) - TBA

Basket (receiver accessory) - TBA

More options to come on this. It's also worth noting that this bumper will integrate with our upcoming Auxilliary Fuel Tank.

These bumpers are hand made, and on a per order basis. Deposit will be required to begin production on your bumper.
Lead time will be 2-3wks AFTER we receive your deposit. This is due to the fact that these are hand made, and to allow time for hardware to arrive.

Thanks for the interest!

I'll be interested to see how it goes. I don't think there's any question about how much thought went into this design and the fine welding is obvious. But... $3100 + shipping is 30% more than the beautiful Slee bumper even and I consider that to be overkill for my needs. Only the ARB and Kaymar bumpers go for this amount and I've never, ever, seen either of those on a real, used Cruiser. Honestly, does this offer something the Slee bumper doesn't offer? It's an honest question. 4x4Labs charges $2100. Iron Pig Off Road uses the 4x4Labs bumpers and charges $2500 loaded. Cruisin Offroad is $2100 loaded.

I was posting on the thread for the Venezuelan bumpers because I was trying to find something cheap and functional. I was contacted by these fine folks and they had me hooked until the price was double what I was expecting. I like the idea of the big picture integrated rear end with extra gas tank and all, but what's that going to cost? $5000?

I'm sorry but I got a 15 year old vehicle because I was on a budget. And I do think our family uses it for real in the real mountains all around us. Maybe I'm not understanding the intended customer or application here.

I'm really just asking for a justification for this cost over the existing options already out there. I think that's fair to ask.

The open line to our post states " I know this bumper is NOT for everyone"...this bumper has indeed been well thought out and is all hand fabricated to the highest standard. It's ALL TIG welded, it's very functional, it is a "custom" bumper. This IS for the guy that wants the best quality and all the bells and whistles...and for the guy that does not want to spend $2,500 plus and have the exact same thing others have...

This my friend is why there is Chocolate, vanilla and strawberry.....it's all about choices.

So, it's "boutique". That's cool. There's $3 a gallon vanilla ice cream and there's $10 a pint gelato.

You have my best wishes for success. Driving a modded out 80 and being on 'Mud is exclusive enough for me. I get plenty of attention already and there are only 4 of us in the 2nd largest city in my state.

Actually, I've seen several ARB and Kaymar rear bumpers on rigs that get used. One in particular (ARB) has been used/abused in more countries than I've ever been to...

This is just another option out there for people who are looking for a rear bumper. It's not for everyone, but that's ok. We're not in this to mass produce. I've just had many people contacting me about pricing, and this is what it costs.

Thanks for looking!

I feel the pain there Rhino...I got priced out too, a bridge too far as they say.

I should have nailed down the proto-type, few minutes too late.

A bridge too far... that's a good way to put what I was thinking. Good movie too. I've toured the battlefields in that area of Europe. There are a lot of huge monuments to the U.S. over there in Belgium, Luxembourg, etc... The foxholes dug in WWII are still in the ground on people's farms over there. Time has stood still in some ways.

I will have a little envy for whomever buys these bumpers I guess. I just put down 50% last night and we're doing a big trip to B.C. in early July now. Gonna have Jason at Cruisin Offroad build and install one of his on our LC. I wasn't trying to harass these guys. I was just trying to make sense of it. I think it's fine to offer a limited edition boutique $$$$ bumper, but it really confused me at first because I think of 'Mud as a place to help people save money, not charge top dollar for "exotic" items. I think I'm getting a fine bumper and the extra $1000+ will pay for a 1600 mile family trip. If that's not gelato, it's at least super premium ice cream.

I'd like to know more about this upcoming fuel tank.

I'll start a build thread for it in Tech once we get around to it.

I'll preface with the fact that I've not owned any of name brands discussed, nor have any first hand experience with, but the 80 isn't the first experience I've had with off road bumpers.

I've a general knowledge of fabrication and inherent craftsmanship, and these guys have done a top notch job at developing the product from conceptualization, design and engineering (not shade tree either), to implementation.

I won't argue that this may not be priced to appease the masses, nor will I say all others are junk in comparison, but my appraisal is the time, materials, and labor they've invested substantiates price, for those whose price range it's in.

Having met both parties, I don't believe either have aspirations to profit a substantial amount, but are more interested in producing a product for the discriminating customer that appreciates the level of craftsmanship and is seeking a bombproof solution to rear bumper storage.

It's an impressive set up and having had the benefit of seeing firsthand, in comparison to the other products available, the price is in line with the inherent quality, in my opinion.

I wish them the best of luck on the endeavor because I'm expecting a front and sliders to match.

Chris

I completely agree with the statement above. Given the time, materials, talent involved with this bumper I think its priced accordingly. Yes given the age of any 80 series now the price represents a large percentage of any vehicle purchase but who cares? If you want the bumper be prepared for the investment. If not there are lots of other great choices out there.

After watching what these gents have put into this design, $3100.00 is not too high. TIG welding is time consuming and absolutely exhausting.

I'm building an 80 series for my mother and if she didn't intend to take this thing all through Moab (where it will live permanently) I would purchase this for her.

Hell, the MIG welded Slee (which is an excellent bumper) is $2600.00 plus the ride so we are only talking a $500.00 difference for a TIG welded, CAD engineered, functional piece.

Best of luck guys, if you design a functional, high clearance low profile front bumper and some nice sliders I'll be one of the first in line.

You could always design a low profile crawler rear bumper also.

I was under the impression that you were building stainless bumpers, there is no mention of stainless in the first post to the thread. For those who are and who are not familiar with the build thread, could you post what materials you are making these bumpers from, and if there is an option of steel and stainless how does that effect pricing?

Also looking forward to seeing your auxillary tank build, what materials will you be building them from?

Black rhino, I dont think it is fair to be critical of price to this Mr.Tim Korn on an advertisement thread. If your trying to nickel and dime someone on pricing for something I would stick to craigslist or kijiji. It is quite apparent his product is top of the line, and if his pricing reflects that why the commentary.

As you say, you seem to be looking for something cheap but functional, so why the comment on something high quality and expensive? You ever seen anyone in a porsche dealership complaining about the prices in comparison to hyundai's?

Thanks for the comments, bud!

These bumpers are made from American made cold rolled steel. It's a higher quality than your typical hot rolled plate. It's also pickled and oil finish, so there it doesn't have the normal mill scale finish, but rather a finish that most resembles a stainless material.

Stainless IS an option, but the price is quite a bit higher... Just a guess, but I'd think you're looking at around $500 more for a stainless version. The good news is that Stainlessdoctor just happens to be familiar with stainless, and the resulting bumper would be nothing less than a work of art.

And don't worry guys, I don't take offense to any comments.

Unfortunately, my bumper shopping coincided with the price release of this bumper. And, on that very same day I had many private email exchanges with the seller, which are not visible here. That exchange went from private to public when this thread was first created.

I'm confident that people who are interested in this bumper will not make their decision based on my questions or priorities. And this will all be moot once people start commenting on the actual performance and qualities of these bumpers when they are actually in use.

The end result of my bumper decision is that I've just put money down for a Cruisin Offroad bumper. We live in far western Montana, 1000 miles from either Slee or Luke, and farther from Arkansas. British Columbia is closer and the price is right for what I need. I'm going to take a fun family trip to Canada this summer and get it installed. The $1000+ difference in price will pay for a family vacation for me. That's just my priority. I have no affiliation with Jason or any other bumper makers. To each their own. I asked a public question on a public forum. Nothing wrong with that.

Again, best wishes to all and happy wheelin! :flipoff2:
