There's CUSTOM and there's custom.
My FJ40 has a modified output shaft on the transmission because of the toy box. It's not common but it's not unheard of among FJ40's, I call that custom.

Fox by pass shock suspension that is unique on the planet is what I call CUSTOM. :D

Exactly! Why is it, generally, when I am in control of the customizing process ("homebrew") things tend to come out closer (notice I said "closer") to the original budget forecast and timeline. But then the professionals, who purportedly are experienced in CUSTOM work, estimates/bids and timelines, tend not to be so accurate with either?!

They are professionals, at what they do not project or time management.

It might be nice to be in an industry/occupation where one could throw those two aspects of customer service to the wind. But it certainly isn't the one I'm in now! ;)

Ahh...Yes, I am still burnt from the Custom aspect of my 04 Unlimited. Which is why most everything on the 80 is factory. May not be factory from this country, but it's factory.

Of course there is the custom piston size that gave me nothing but headaches on the 80. I don't think we'll ever learn.

Ain't that the truth.

Jack

No shyte! The plans for more custom mods just keep getting dreamed up! Isn't that the very definition of "insanity"?! Expecting different results from the same processes?

Guess that makes me...

Admit it we love the creative process as much as the wheelin.

Once you embrace the truth life gets easier. :grinpimp:

Well, I piss and moan about the costs and such. I COULD just go ahead and find another 3FE with lower mileage, do the H55 swap, and throw a Marlin box behind it with my 19 spline, but in the end...
Im as excited as a virgin in a whore house to do this custom swap.
However, this whole thing is bigger that just the Cuiser, the wheeling and the performance.
When all is said and done, you cant take the money with you when you die, and life (IMO) is about the experience. Im pursuing a quest of sorts. I want to see what I and my rig can do together. I started with an old rusty rig that wasnt worth what I paid for it and I had basically NO mechanical abilites what so ever to speak of. Ive taken those two BLANK canvases and made what I wanted out of both.
When I get old and senile and start babling on in a daze, I can talk about the rig that I built, the places we went with it, the things I had done with it and the people that I shared it with.
However, unlike espresso Dan...mine is just a weenie custom job, and NOT a CUSTOM job. These swaps are rather common and there is information on it, so I have that advantage in my corner. SpressoDan is pioneering his mods. Which is pretty damn cool!

BTW everyone...
I got my new output shaft from AA, and finally got my reluctor ring from Downey.
Now I just gotta scrape up the cash to get it all installed!
Ill feel a TON better when that happens, like its actually coming together!
The shaft is actually kinda CUTE...Its got this nubby little splined end to it.
Also got the catalog from AA...theyve got some SH*T in there. Their web site now sucks, so Ill be referring to that.
BTW, I was having some issues with Downey calling me back, so I ended up going with AA.
