Hey guys I need the skinny on primers. I'm gonna use rustoleum to paint the 40 but I'm not ready to paint yet. I've just finished the engine so now on to the body work. I don't have a great deal of time, so much of my work is done on the weekends. I have read a few posts about self etching primer, regular primer and want to know what to use if I'm gonna wait a week before putting the paint to it. Would you clean, prime and paint small sections, or can I clean and prime put it away until next weekend then paint the entire rig?

Thanks Steve

Ideally, the self etching would be best used on bare metal only, with the regular primer over properly scuffed old paint. You could prime sections at a time, if you can keep flash rust, and contminants at bay long enough, but priming the whole rig a week before topcoating would be just fine. Just keep the rain off of the uncoated primer.
