I am thinking of having my 2f rebuilt this winter. Does anyone have a shop recomendation.

Thanks,

Vince

I had a good experience with Automotive Head Exchange. Didn't have anything rebuilt, but they did good work and had a decent price.

Two choices. Statkis or Edwards. Larry is currently having a head rebuilt at Statkis so you might see what his experience has been.

These two choices came from recommendations from others in the group, plus from a machinest not affiliated with the two shops. He ranked them one and two, but I don't remember the order.

I can recommend who NOT to use - for you and everyone on this board.

Do NOT use Performance Automotive. I brought them my disassembled F engine - block and head - to be rebuilt. I was promised they would look at it and get me an estimate in 1 week. After waiting 1 week and spending another trying to call them (they never answer phone or return messages) they finally said tehy could do it in about a month later. Finally, 2+ months later, after calling and stopping by shop several times I got the engine back. They didn't have the bearings or piston rings yet though - so I had to pick them up from their supplier.

Installed everything, and couldn't turn the crank. Turns out they didn't turn or polish the crank and ordered the wrong size bearings. Oh, they didn't install half of the freeze plugs. I found out later that a neighbor brought them a suburban to rebuild and suffered many similar problems. All in all, they were extremely unprofessional in addition to being completely incompetent. I'm afraid to see what will start failing on my "rebuilt" motor in a 100 miles or so.

I had Automotive Machine Service on 2nd return the crank and some other work. They are pricey but was very impressed with the people and work there.
