I've been working on building this trailer for the last month or so, and I'm just finally getting around to starting this thread. The objective here was to build a trailer using mostly stuff that I had ( that didn't really work out), to have it done for a trip to FL by 3/17 ( that didn't really work out), and to have a trailer that I can put the RTT on and haul stuff with. It also needs to be something that can go pretty much anywhere an 80 can go ( not my green 80, just a normal 80), and something I can add on to as needs arise or time allows, like a water tank, a water pump, a heater, solar panels, etc, etc. So I started with a kind of funked up old 40 frame that I had, and the idea that I wanted a 4'x6' box to put the tent on, and a small box in front of that to store outside sort of stuff like firewood and trash. I had some 60 series springs, I made some shackles, and got some spring and shackle hangers from rough stuff. I wanted to use Toyota wheels so that the spare tires could be common. I found some hubs and spindles to match. I found it sort of difficult dealing with the way the 40 frame narrowed in the front, so I cut the crossmember out and made the frame rails parallel.

I added my own cross support in the front that will become part of the draw bar. 3x3 1/4 wall. I eventually remove the original cross member completely

Thats just a little bit of it for now, I'll continue to add pictures and commentary as I have time.

I'm so bad at remembering to take pictures along the way. I found some trailer hubs that were 6x5.5, and some matching spindles. The only 6x5.5's I could find were rated for something like 4500lbs, so the axle's going to be a hair over built. I don't have any pics, but I cut a tube and welded the spindles, then made spring perches and bolted the axle to the springs, sprung over. I continued along with the bed frame and started on some of the up-rights for the box.

Time to add some more pictures.... I’ve wire wheeled the frame and coated it in rust encapsulator while it was easy to get to. I used some 1x3 for the top portion of the box and for the beginning of the fenders, and of course need to give some credit to my

I’ll eventually have a door on the side, for now I’ve framed it out and I’ll just skin over it. I’ve also changed the tires and wheels, thanks @jamesurq these ones look much better and don’t stick out quite as far. I’ll be using angle iron to attach the skins of the box to the box frame.

Looks like it’s gonna need it’s own engine

Another batch of pics. Getting the rear door put together, and some more on the fenders. The rear door will have the ability to slide off the hinges, or double as a table. There were quite a few tricky angles on the fenders, theres some things that are just better suited for a tubing bender.

I love how the fenders came out man.
Thanks, I’ve got more pictures with tin on them. I’ll post when I get time. Now that I look at these pictures more, I really need to tie the rear bumper in with the fenders, at least visually.

You'll get that chance when you move the fenders up to lower the trailer
