Looking for some info on the Aisin A1-1000, I would like to give mine a once over before I put it back in my truck but I can not seem to find much information on them.

Looking for seals, recommended lub (I'm thinking ATF)
Much appreciated!

It's in the RM183E manual near the end. I've attached the section on the electric winch to this post for your convenience. And seem's you're right about the ATF.

Thanks Nick, very useful.

I’m wondering if anywhere has listed the part numbers to some of the non reusable parts. O-rings etc. The last time I used mine it leaked out all its fluid so I figure now is a good time to go through it before I put it on the new truck.

Megazip has some of the available part numbers. This link is one of four pages of part numbers:

Ok so I finally got my winch apart. It almost looks like a bit of atf leaked into the electric motor? It seems to be dripping a small amount for the vent off the back of the motor.

Anyways, does anyone know where to source the seals for this thing? I can’t seem to find them anywhere using the listings above.

O rings come in standard sizes, any hydraulic specialist or good parts store should have them. Take the ones you need and ask them to match them.

Hey I’m servicing mine right now, got it cleaned and all back together but it’s leaking fluid and there is 3/16” of horizontal play on the drum. That’s where it’s leaking (i think 1 or both ends of the drum) any idea what I’m doing wrong? It’s mounted to the steel plate so I don’t see how there can now be play. Or is some play On the drum normal, and I just didn’t notice before?

Did you ever figure this out? I just got my new seals in and it’s the same. A b it if horizontal play and a tablespoon or two of fluid leaking out

Thread revival. Did you guys ever figure this out? I’m reassembling mine now and ATF Type F does leak out from the gear at the left side, but when I took it apart there was ATF inside the drum as well, so I _think_ this is normal and it should all seal itself once I put it together?

I was also given another opinion, that ATF is way too thin for this and I should just use gear oil.

The factory recommended fluid is Dexron II ATF, I would not put anything else thicker in there. The fluid should be in the gearbox and the center of the drum, but should not leak past the motor plate. There are several x-rings (38187-60170) and o-rings (90301-59044) that keep the fluid inside, they're worth replacing if you have yours apart. I rebuilt mine about a year ago with new seals and gaskets, it has been working beautifully ever since.

I did replace all rings yup. But yeah I tried putting ATF into the planetary gear piece while disassembled and it’s leaking out the gear side (on the right, if I tilt it down).

So I guess I’m wondering, if I just reassemble it all, will it stay dry or did I miss something? The original reason to take it apart was because it leaked all fluid out in one go, but after taking it apart I did not come across anything especially damaged, and it looks brand new inside, so I don’t know what happened - I wonder if something went wrong _before_ I took it apart, so simply reassembling into the original state will take me to where I was, with a leaking winch. Hmm.

Yeah, the fluid will all leak out of the gear on the end of the gearbox since it is designed to allow lubricant into the clutch/brake packs in the center of the drum. When I rebuilt mine I got it all reassembled and then hung it vertically (gearbox end up) and poured in the required amount of ATF. Mine had lost all the fluid as well from the cable jumping off the drum and wrapping itself up between the motor housing and the end of the drum. It actually forced the drum so far away from the motor housing that it pulled off the x-ring on the motor end of the winch and the fluid could leak out.

Gotcha. Ok thanks! I’m going to try doing it this way. Hanging it is a great idea but I guess I need a small crane for that so I’ll have to figure out something else to fill it, hmm.

I used an engine hoist, but you could also prop it up against something with some cushioning under the motor end. It only has to be upright enough to be able to pour fluid in the end.
