hard to believe but failed my aircare but it has happened on both of my BJ74's. The same fix both times rebuilt injectors. I pulled them myself and took them to Fred Holmes Fuel Injection in Richmond. Raj is the one to see and they had the parts in stock to do them. Apparently they do work for Ateb in burnaby. There was a bit of oil past the crossover from the turbo so i will have to monitor that. I hope I do not have a leaky turbo seal. No more black smoke and now past aircare for about $500. I am not sure what shop would have charged?

I just turn the fuel way down on the injection pump , makes the cruiser feel gutless but gets though aircare with fyling colors. Then I just crank it back up after its all done. I also do this to my girlfriends Townace van.

i was going to say that, good idea.

Where do I turn the fuel down on a 13bt? On the injector pump? Is it similar to an idle screw on dirtbikes?

OMG! My BJ 74 passed with flying colors 8.3ppm for hydrocarbons. 10ppm for the HJ61. Both fuel screws are set from the factory. Same injectors since motor(s) were new. Fuel conditioner, Fuel conditioner, fuelconditioner.

It was obvious that it would fail, quite a bit of black smoke. I think I will run the stanedyne fuel formula as well from now on.

I haven't done it to a 13bt but on a 1hz and on a 2c-t, injection pumps are like a idle screw on a dirt bike, with a lock nut on it. 12mm lock nut and either a flat head screw driver or a 6mm socket or wrench on the tip of the fuel screw. I assume this would be the the same or fairly similar on the 13bt injection, but you might want to do a search, on 13bt injection pumps. Usually people are increasing fuel to get more power. This might be why yours smokes so much in the first place.
Turning the screw out decreases fuel. You only need to do it a bit, I turn 1/8 or a 1/4 at a time and test drive. Repeat until you don't have excessive black smoke under acceleration. You might have to increase your idle speed as this will lower your idle to much. And make sure you count the number of turns you screw the fuel out so you can set it back, to where you started. This should help pass aircare, but if your pump and injectors are completely hooped, it might not help.
