Airbag Light On??

Okay everyone see if this can stump the GX gurus on here.

I was just driving along today obeying most traffic laws, made a quick right turn and the airbag light came on. I really have no idea where to begin looking for loose connections, or even the first thing to check.

Vehicle details: 2004 GX 470, 122k miles, OME lift, BFG 265's.

I am hoping this will be an easy/cheap fix, I have been saving up for bumpers.

Any help or suggestion is much appreciated.

I have a scangauge II, but I don't think that will read the airbag code. Is that correct? What scan tool do you recommend?

Not sure if it'll read a body code or not, I don't have one.

It is your driver side seat belt buckle. It needs to be replaced cost IIRC is ~$50-55

I had a loose seat connection throw a code on my VW. Reconnected the sensors on that seat. Pulled the battery for a while and it went away.

Scan the code first, then you can figure it out from there and get the correct parts. There is nothing worse than speculation. If it is the seat belt buckle (which is a common problem and has a tsb) it will cost about $50 from the dealer to replace. My GX thread has some info as I replaced mine.

Finally scanned the code, turns out it is the seat position sensor. Code was B1153. I was also able to find a thread in the 100 series section detailing the repair procedure. Mud to the rescue once again.

I had an interesting situation recently. I had the airbag light showing up intermittently. I would pull a fuse under the hood and it would reset only to come back on later. Coincidentally I had a battery that was beginning to give me trouble and I was charging it frequently. I bought a new battery and installed it and I haven't had the airbag light show up since and its been several months. You may want to have your battery checked. I don't know if it was coincidence or not but I can't explain why it has not come on again.

Did you use the same part numbers listed on the 100 series thread? I have the same problem, but it looked like a different clip in the pic. Thanks.

Where you able to pull the code from the Scangauge II?

No, I had to have a friend who had a Snap-On scanner check the code. Turned out to be the sensor from the 100 Series thread, followed those instructions and problem solved.
