Ya know what happens when you head down a step grade with a rear axle seal leak? Glad I upgraded the front disks - still had stopping problems.

Anywho, anyone have a more detailed perspective on removing the c clips in my locker? The ARB manual looks like they want me to remove the long shaft the spider block and the thrust block. My question is more like: How do I do that? does the shaft get drifted out and thus how much room is needed for that? Any tricks and/or precautions here?:meh:

There is one special tool you need, it looks like an L, but the long end is threaded, I think it's an 8-32 thread. You can also do it with a long screw.

This is going from memory, the last time I did this was 2004, so cut me some slack if I miss a step.

Drain the oil out of the axle, then take the back cover off. There's a bolt in the side of the locker, take that out. Then take that special tool, there's a pin about 1/4" in diameter in the bottom of the hole, it has a threaded hole in the end. You take the tool I mentioned, screw it into the pin, and pull the pin out. Then you slide the big cross pin out. Then take out the thrust block. Shove the axles in a little bit, use a magnet pickup tool to take the c-clips out.

Basically, that's about it.

Hey Thanx! That Helped:D. For posterity sake some photos of the process:

As you have shown in your pictures and as KLF mentioned you can use a standard wood screw to get the small side pin out. I did not have a special tool when I disassembled mine and the hardest part for me was locating that small hole and figuring out there was something in there I had to remove. Those pictures are good and should somehow be put in faq. I could have used that 6 months ago…

Great post. It saved my sanity.

UH... I forgot exactly how I did this the first time. Now that I have to get in there again, I am glad I remembered that I posted the pics last time. Yeah this would be a good FAQ
