Hi all first post here. OK I've tried searching this forum and google in general but finding it hard to get a definitive answer, what i'm trying to find out is it safe to run more boost past the point that the air filter restriction light comes on?
The reason i ask is mine comes on at 21-22psi and after reading hours of threads involving gturbos and air filter housing upgrades etc it seems that the general consensus is the standard air filter housing and safari snorkels are good for 25psi? which is what i'm chasing and will be more than happy with tbh so don't see the need to spend another $1000+ on 4" snorkel and custom air box.
I'm currently running a brand new genuine air filter pretty much everything is under 6 months old really new turbo, intercooler, pump and injectors, engine freshly built 30k ago.
Chasing the extra few psi as that's where the bad boys operating range is at according to Gturbos tuning guide, lower my egts allowing me to run more fuel (650c - 700c) pre turbo and course squeeze that little bit extra grunt out of it!
So is it going to damage my new turbo and is it even worth running more boost once the restrition light has come on? Cheers

The K&N will help with less restricted air flow but some believe they let more dust into the engine but like most all cleaners they need servicing cleaning and then oiling if this is done wrong they could dust your engine.

There must be some diffence in calibration between sensors, mine never came on at 23 psi feeding a BadBoy but I felt the stock airbox may have been restricting performance so I went to a Moonlight fab airbox, but yeah, not sure why the difference

have you got a snorkel on it now? What brand? Some of them have some pretty crappy restrictive bends in them where they come through the guard and inner guard.
check the intake before the ir cleaner doesn't have any restrictions in it

maybe figure out how to test the sensor is working correctly too

Thanks for the replies. Not keen on the K&N filter as yeah i have heard reports of them allowing dust through also but thanks anyway.
Would love one the moonlight boxes Aussie but the cost involved, housing + snorkel + freight is very expensive an outside my budget atm unfortunately.
The snorkel on my vehicle i'd say is a safari knock off as it doesn't actually say safari on the side but i wouldn't have thought there to be to much differences really, i might have to remove the inner guard and inspect there isn't any kinks or such.
The light will only come when i have the loud pedal to the floor i can run 22psi at half throttle or the highway etc pretty easy as we all know how quickly these turbos spool and the light will not show.
I like the idea of this snorkel and air filter housing also think its great value compared to buying them as 2 separate units but i already have a hole in my guard etc from my existing snorkel not to mention my cruise control will all be in the way.

I might have to look into fitting the larger petrol air filter top and enlarge my intake somehow as people are doing in the air box mod thread and see if that makes a difference. I haven't tried running more boost out of fear of damaging my turbo but the urge is there!

Mine came up past 12 - 14 PSI as stock setup ..

I'm pushing around 24 PSI on G turbo and few other mods here and there .. I also have a vacuum meter after air box and there is a serious restriction there for sure .. I'm honestly not totally confident on how much the snorkel it's a true restriction ( having a safari one ) but the stock air box / air filter sure it is ..

I've test my setup with free turbo intake and it's day night difference .. just like you reluctant to drop 1K on air box .. I have the 1FZ air box lid right in there to fit but there are few mods that have to be made ..
