Looks like i am going to have to check this, i noticed water on my floor mat the other day. hhmmmmmmm
several potential causes (1) sunroof drains clogged, (2) windshield replacement improperly installed (3) AC drain clogged (4) heater but idk this issue very well. I have the same problem and would like help id-ing cause. It was happening in the winter when the AC was not running.

Well since i posted i haven't had any instance of water on the passenger mat. Have been running ac everyday, and have been through many rain storms. Go figure.

have you run the heater?

does anybody know a good place to buy Toyota hundy molding to rocker and cowling trim clips? I seem to have snapped a few during my leak hunting. thx!

Here are the pics of the passenger side with panels removed and carpet pulled up. Also, two pics of the compartment below the cowling with water running through it-- pretty clean.

sound dampener is, well, very damp! No additional drops came from running the hose on the cowling area or from water on windshield/bubble test.

electricals on the right side of the wet carpet is VERY dry! phew!

Notice the drops on the firewall-- is that from the evaporator?

I have talked to Toy mechanic when picking up some clips at the parts dept. He said to check three things (1) run window defroster (hot) at highest fan setting to test for AC drain plug clogging, (2) check sun-roof drain clogs (both front AND back) testing the front is easy-- pore water into the holes and see if there is a leak along handles or A-pillar onto carpet. testing rear drain clogging requires parking on up-hill incline so water flows into rear drain. pour a lot of water, and see if it backs up into the front drain holes (or not). (3) do the windshield (especially if replaced!) soapy-water test-- soapy water on outside of windshield (top and sides) then blow compressed air (from shop/strong compressor) from inside and see if any big soap bubbles develop. He said extremely rare to have evaporator gasket problem, or roof rack problem (unless changed). I just did test #1 with high fan windshield defroster high fan for 30 minutes of heat and also 30 min of cold air--no problems. So I need to do test #2 for rear drain clogging. The test #3, but idk where I am going to get a high-power compressor.

I just had the issue of dripping water from the same place on passenger side of my 00 Landcruiser and came across this thread. I removed the glove box and then removed the cover as described earlier. there is a foam type seal only at the bottom of the cover and that's where it was leaking from. I did not have much debris in there because luckily I added cabin air filters in the past and they collected a lot of gunk protecting the evap fins. Anyway, I cleaned out the area, added some ultra black to both sides of the foam seal, reinstalled and the drip is gone. I don't think there was ever a clog in the drain to the outside as it has normal flow. I believe that lower seal is just another one of those things we'll all have to do sooner or later on our hundies. Toyota should have put more screws/tabs on the bottom part of the cover to maintain the seal over time. I just ordered new cabin filters. Mine just started to drip. Luckily I had a box of tissue sitting right there catching the water and was able to witness the drip from the black box that is under the glove box. I have never noticed water there before yesterday. I was running the rear A/C which I normally don't run. Would that be a factor in any way?

I'll be opening up the glove box soon. to clean and reseal. Any more advice on what to use to reseal? I may just order the actual gasket.

I also first noticed mine when using the rear ac. running the rear ac must make the compressor stay on longer or something like that. I would have used plumbers putty on the seal if I had it but used ultra black cause it was on hand. you only have to seal a small amount along the bottom and up about an inch on each side. I kept the original foam seal, just added a little around it

After posting I went on a errand and did not use the rear AC. I see no connection because I still had a drip. I do get a lot on the pavement as well, so I just need to take the housing apart and reseal.

Thanks @RootMeanSqr, I'll put in an order this week. I need to run by the Toyota parts store anyway to replace my rusty skid plate bolts.

When it rains it pours. I should be getting my sway bar link bolts tomorrow to fix that sheared bolt.

This leak is driving me crazy!!!! I had the windscreen replaced and then experienced a major leak on the LHS down the A pillar, drenching the electrics on the passenger side (RHD Australian vehicle), crazy stuff going on like A/C and lights doing their own thing... my hose test told me it is the top corner of the windscreen.
..anyway windscreen shop says not their job causing the issue, and tell me its the firewall bung due to aftermarket electrical cable going through. I goop the hell out of that, still getting a leak in the rain... then they tell me its the roof rack bolts..I take roof rack bolts out, they seem dry and clean. I hose the same spot up top corner where the molding goes over the windscreen top seal - yep she leaks. Like a Clinton aide with a death wish.
This is killing me!!! I can't see water inside the A-pillar, I only know it is coming out and dripping all over the electrical junctions closer to the firewall and soaking the floor.

Shall I take the 4 screws ( I know they're meant to be rivets!) out of that side molding and rip it off to see what the deal is? What holds that side molding down up near the roof rack mount?

Any advice appreciated. I live in a small town, the Toyota dealership is useless, quoted 2 hours to just look at it, and their "expert" windscreen" guy... is the guy that did this job. FML

I don't know how it works over in Aus, but if I were to go back to the windshield installer with solid proof that it was leaking, I would expect a fix. Have you brought up the fact that he installed with the incorrect hardware? I would try everything in your power to get them to fix it. Otherwise your left with two options.

You can either pay out of your pocket to have it reinstalled, or you can remove all the trim and try to gloop some silicone in there. Most guys on this forum, myself included, would not suggest the latter.

they possibly cut the sunroof drain tube(s) while removing the windshield. you may be able to check by removing the a&b pillar inside trim.

I posted this in another MUD post, but I feel it is more relevant here. Copy and paste my problem and see if there are any new suggestions 10 months later...

I bought my 2004 LX470 used from a Honda dealership in May. The windshield had been replaced, before purchase and I had to take it back in to get the black side channels put back on. The channels were screwed in with no silicone or stripping laid down to cover the old rivet holes. Also I now realize the top caps were not installed(I wondered why they weren't flush to the roof)! I read that incorrect install might be why I am having the following problem.

When it rains hard I am getting wet carpet on the passenger side. I take out the glove box and see where there is some surface rust on the silver tube frame and bracket that support the dash. Ran it through a car wash and see that there is a drip coming from above that rail. My biggest concern is all the electronics in that area eventually corroding.

1)It has been a torrential June here in Alabama, so I am not sure if this problem persisted before I bought the vehicle or not.
2)Even though I bought the vehicle as is, I have in writing that the dealership was responsible for the weatherstripping install after the sale.

I would appreciate any thoughts on whether it is most likely a windshield/weatherstripping problem, or might the leak be from somewhere else?
Any help would be greatly appreciated so I have an idea how to proceed.
Many thanks!
David

it could be the windshield or it could also be a clogged sunroof drain or the sunroof drain tube could have been cut during the old windshield removal as it travels down the inside a-pillar on both sides. I would pull the pass a-pillar, grab handle and visor and you should be able to pull the headliner down a bit then run water over the top to help expose the problem. I had a leak similar to yours and it turned to be a leak in the replacement windshield seal(goop they use) at the top of the windshield on the passenger side. the water dripped onto the headliner and ran down the a-pillar finally ending up dripping onto the floor behind the glove box. it was easy to see where it was coming from once I had the headliner pulled down a little bit. for some reason, windshield companies have a hard time with these trucks, probably because they don't see many and the trim is unique with the rivets and all. I had the double whammy, the notorious ac drip this thread is about and a windshield leak. all fixed now though

Hello,

I've had water issues with my truck. Bought it in May 2017. Its a 2001 LC100. First issues were bad sunroof and windshield install. had both sealed up and fixed. Now I have damp passenger side footwell. And I blotted the wet areas with white paper towels and the liquid was orange and brown. Leads me to think it might be leaking heater core? Let me know your thoughts and what the process for repair is?

Just noticed that I have the AC evaporator drip. I installed some rubber floor mats that catch water from the bottom of the evaporator that helped pinpoint the issue. The AC is working great with all the humidity this time of year. The water is draining from the system almost like a water hose so I know it is not clogged. I'll pull the cover and reseal. I just happened to have a roll of Morimto RetroRubber Butyl Sealant to try.

I have no idea if this is the right stuff without getting into it.

the correct seal from Toyota is like $11- $13, and takes like 5-10 minutes to replace. It's the seal on the bottom half of the evap cover. Easy peasy.

Let me try to find the part number.
