air conditioner button blinking

So... I took a trip about a month ago... wash dc to huntsville Al. On the way down the ac worked fine. On the way back the truck didnt really get cold. A few days later when I try to turn on the ac the button blinks the compressor starts I think and then it turns off.
So I got some freon and tried to add it and the gauge immediately goes into the red. I talk to a mechanic friend and he says its either the ac relay or the compressor itself.
Where is the relay? Taking another trip tomorrow and need some ac.

Ok so I found the fuse. On my 2002 the mg clt relay is the same as the mr htr fuse so I switched them. I hit the button the compressor does start for about 30 secs and then cuts back off. I am getting the sinking feeling that i need a compressor
