AHC to OME or Ironman lift question

Okay, so after hours of reading up on doing this swap on my wife's LX I have one important question.

How do I achieve the proper initial measurements for droop for the new lift if her LX's failing AHC is always at a random height? It's usually slammed in the front and maxed in the rear but changes multiple times while driving.

Just as a heads up, I'm not interested in how to solve any AHC problems...been there done that, just want to swap it out.

I'm no expert on this, but since you haven't gotten any other responses yet I'll throw my $.02 into the ring.

If you are replacing the suspension and going to give it a bit of a lift, I'm not so sure the initial measurement matters that much. I would just install the torsion bars to where I thought they were supposed to be, and then check for proper droop.

I just read through these instructions again, and I think you are taking the initial measurement so that you can match that measurement once the new ones are installed. Since your initial measurement won't be valid anyway (with the malfunctioning AHC and changing heights) I think the most important part would be to check for proper droop.

Finished swapping everything out. Not as difficult as some threads report. Removing the rear shock nuts on top was the most difficult part. A chain wrench is a must. Dealing with the hydraulic fluid is not a huge mess but you have to be careful, wear safety glasses. Sorry for the crappy pics, my iPhone is hit and miss..

Installed Slee's diff drop today. Super easy. Great product that bolted on with no issues. Only one cv boot was puking. Cleaned up and used Pfrans clamps, also great service.

Thanks, I still need to crank up the front a little more. I set the droop at 3" initially until I got the DD. Just missed an amazing deal on some brand new Tundra Rock Warrior wheels with tires for $900 bucks. I've always run BFG's on all my past Cruisers but I think I might go with 255/85-16 Coopers on this one. Depends on the wife, it's hers after all.

Nice job! Crazy how flimsy are those rear coils on the AHC trucks, almost like "helper" springs than anything else (which, I guess, is really what they are)...
 
So which Ironman lift did you get? What is your typical load? How does it ride in comparison to the AHC?

My wife drives our LX right now, but will eventually be my toy or primary vehicle.

I got the light load, I think they call it performance. I have no load, it's totally stock, wife's DD. Bought it because it was the cheapest replacement. We just moved and I'm between jobs. It rides nice but it's really ass high. I'm going to swap the coils with my 80. It's On OME mediums but it has lots of weight. 4x4 labs bumper, RTT, steel arb rack and so on. My AHC worked for quit a while, we drove across the country a few times, it was very smooth. It started acting up about a year ago so it was time to kiss it goodbye. Ironman is much stiffer than AHC. I knew it would be, would almost compare it to OME heavy/ heavy that I put on the wife's Tacoma a few years ago.

Nice to see other LX owners busting knuckles and wrenching man. Truck looks killer, great job :)
