The stock unit from my 98 (base stereo) has two antennae sockets a small and a normal size one. I tried plugging only the normal size one that doesn't seem to give me any radio signal so I assume I have to plug the small one and or BOTH into some sort of adapter?

Also, are there any aftermarket antennae for our vehicle like a plastic antennae instead of the motorized?

The 'normal' sized antenna plug is for the retractable antenna and the small plug is for the antenna built into the passenger side rear window.

If your retractable antenna and cord are in good shape, you should get reception.

Was your retractable antenna extended when you tested the radio?

I installed a head unit on my 2001 LX, I had to buy these parts to get both antenna's connected:

- Scosche Mda-B Micro/Delco Antenna Adapter Tip
- METRA 40-UV43 MALE TO FEMALE MOTOROLA ANTENNA CABLE

I didn't find these parts on my own, found them on a thread here a while back, but I deleted the bookmark after I installed the parts.

thanks everyone for your responses! It's very helpful. Any recommendations on an aftermarket antenna to replace the stock motorized one? Most modern vehicles don't have motorized antenna anymore instead a rubber or plastic one and I'm hoping someone has had a good experience with one.

Thanks all for the help those adapters worked like a charm I'm getting great radio signal now.

The Tundra antenna idea looks GREAT exactly what I am looking for even though it's now working I wouldn't mind ditching the changes for that. Has anyone done it? Is it a lot of work?
