Do any of you guys run a dedicated reverse camera?

The other option is to replace the stereo, but this is for my Wife's Cruiser....the stock stereo suits its purpose.

I was thinking along the lines of a LCD window in the rear view mirror.

The other choice is a separate display but not really sure where it would fit......

So the other option is replacing the stereo.

Any recommendations on where to locate a trim kit for a double din?

This is what I installed in my wife's 2011 Outback

Amazon.com: Sony XA-R800C Rear View Camera: Car Electronics

NEW Gentex GENK332 Auto-dimming Mirror with 3.3" Hi-Definition Rear camera Display

Gentex Auto-dimming Mirrors with Rear Camera Display from MITO Corporation Excellence in Electronics for Auto, Car, Truck, SUV, RV and Boats

The mirror needs a +12v reverse trigger and video feed. The camera has a small outboard box that has conections for video in, video out, and power. The box could be located in a bunch of places in the rear cabin of the LC. In the Outback I had to locate it in the tailgate (which seems more weathertight that the LC)

There are no step by step instructions with the mirror or camera. You should have a basic understanding of wiring, soldering, fishing cables though the headliner, and weatherproofing connections and drill holes if you are going to DIY.

I just purchased my first 100 series that already had a cheap crappy single din installed. The first thing I
did was research a double din deck that I liked and have it installed. I choose the Kenwood ddx419 for its built in bluetooth and back up camera capabilities and had it installed along with a rear drop down dvd system with wireless headphones for my daughter. We have had it for a 3 days now and Love the back up camera it makes parking lots easier and can also show everybody when someone is tail gating. The dvd has been nice and so far my daughter thinks it only works on the interstate wonder how long I can keep that going. all in all we are very happy and would do it again. You will be very happy with the back up camera and had we had the factory deck I would have gone with the mirror option listed above.

http://incarmusic.co.uk/product/421...100-Car-Stereo-Fitting-Kit-with-Stalk-Adaptor

Got mine at the above link. UK. They shipped to the US. I don't think the harness works. I know the connector to the amp doesn't. It looks like the steering wheel remote connection may work. I won't know until I have my radio installed. Waiting for the avic 940 and kenwood ddx719 to become available. I have had my dash apart and the fit is perfect as is the color.

Sometimes they pop up on ebay UK as well a little cheaper with no harness which is fine.

The only other alternative I found was the beatsonic USA trim kit. But to me it looked wider than double din with fillers. It was as wide as the eyebrow much too wide for standard double din.

If others know where to get a cheaper kit chime in, but I think non navs were rare here so little aftermarket support. I guess in the UK not so many navs.

If you go the mirror route...this looks like the cats meow. ;) Having said that I am changing the stereo for the same price.....

I installed a reverse camera when I put on my BIOR rear bumper. I have a 3.5 inch lcd screen, mounted on the blank in the dash to the right of the climate controls.

I hooked it up to the power going to my IPF reverse light, so it comes on when I put it in reverse, but it also comes on when I turn on the light manually (nice to be able to see behind the truck without having to put it in reverse). Used it this way a couple times already while hitching up my trailer... Very handy.

Here's another option:

GPSWirelessBackup

I have the wireless 5" one. Basically, you get a bluetooth camera you connect to a reverse light in the rear for it's power source. Then, every time you put truck in reverse, it powers on the camera, which automatically emits a bluetooth signal, which the GPS screen picks up, and the display changes from whatever was up to the camera display. Then, when you put the vehicle back in drive, the camera turns off, returning to your previous screen. I like it because now we can move the GPS between any car in our family (none of them have built in nav systems)

Or the have hardwires cameras also that do the same:

Hello everyone,
I'm bringing back this conversation from the grave...

Looking for backup camera systems for my 2003 100 LC.
Don't know if I should replace the whole navigation system or just get a separate screen and camera.

Any recommendations are more than welcome.

Thanks.

I got a separate screen and camera from Costco. It was inexpensive and easy to install. It's wireless so I didn't have to run a wire through the interior. Just had to run a wire to the reverse light in the tailgate.

It's not the greatest but suits my needs well and much cheaper than replacing the nav unit.

I removed my rearview and replaced it with one that had an lcd screen so that when i switched on the camera, the image would come up. I got the mito brand (same as that in factory toyotas now)
