Just before we headed out on our six week tour I broke down and purchased a used Pelican case #1500 for my camera equipment. This was money well spent, I should have had a hardcase for all my gear years ago. Mr Heater Portable Buddy now needs a case so it can ride up on the roofracks but I feel a Pelican would be overkill. What other brands are reliable/well built? What does the group recommend ? Thanks..

I use three Alu-boxes, an all aluminum box that is water/dust proof.
You loose no space inside with them, but they are pricey.
They stack very well.
Check them out at:

The container thread

I use a couple of the Huensdorff ones as described in this thread. One for kitchen equipment, one for gear. They are lightweight, and can be dented (adds character?), but hold up well.

someone posted this before
Amazon.com: MTM ACR8-72 Ammo Crate Utility Box with 7.25" Deep, Large, Dark Earth: Sports & Outdoors

I haven't tried it yet but I've been keeping it in my shopping cart just in case I decide to.
I Actually have 4 of these as well, but generally only use two. I have dry food in them. It should be noted that these aren't as big as the aluminum boxes or many Pelicans etc, and are also not waterproof, but you can't beat the price for stackable storage.

Front Runner sells decent storage boxes. That or used steel ammo cans as I do. Search online and you can find large ones to hold a Mr Heater

Ditto, for equipment that doesn't need the cushion of a pelican ie. most non-camera gear, I use Front Runner Outfitter. They have two sizes in the hard-sided design and they have a soft-sided, foldable one. I haven't use the soft-sided but the hard sided ones are great, they stack easily and are sturdy. Good size and no lost space inside.

If your anywhere near a military base, see when their next DRMO sale is! I'm retired USMC so mine are free, but at the sales you can buy any of the mount-out gear we use- Pelican cases, aluminum storage crates, ammo cans (get the mortar tube ammo cans, great size), plus plenty of hard sided cases that are a lot cheaper than you'll find anywhere!

I have 3 bases real close to me. All I can find is there online auctions. Where would I go to find the in person sale?

You might try to call base information, and get a phone # for DRMO (Defense re-utilization management office ??) and call them. Ask them when their on base sales are. Good luck!
I'm in Wilmington NC, right next to Camp Lejuene, and 1.5 hours from Ft Bragg. Here we have a large alloy recycler, Southern Metal, that buys nothing but military equipment. You can walk thru their warehouses, and they are full of everything from flexiable water bladders, batteries, ammo cans, stretchers, magazine pouches, they have everything! They even sell 5 ton troop carriers, 20 ton wreckers, you can buy hmmvv tires.... set of 4, new, 37/12.50/16.5 for $400..... 3/4 tread $300.....1/2 tread $200.
