I am looking for a rack with a basket eight inches deep or so. It must also have rails that I can lash two boats to. Weight is not a large concern I am planing on using it for tents and stuff sacks to save space in the cab. I am using Yak bars off of the F250 I sold to buy the 80 now and can mount to them if need be.
I took the family plop camping last week and had to take out the middle drivers side seat to haul everything. My 80 shrunk considerably with my wife, my two year old, and a hundred pound golden retriever along with a weeks worth of gear.I have never had to worry much before about what we take before space was not a issue.

I know,I know, take less stuff.

Money is a concern here as well so I am open to any ideas?.

I have been considering a rack for similar reasons, and I think that for the price and accesory availability, I really like the Wilderness Racks. They are only 6" deep though. The other good thing about them is that they have yakima and Thule adapters that allow you to attack those crossbars to the rack if you need to. I plan on getting of these for all my junk. Check out Manrigdude ROTW in the FAQ, he has this same rack and you'll see just how much you can fit up there.

Have you actually got all that s*** hanging off the back of your wagon?
That cant be legal.

Forget fancy rack systems, but keep the Yak bars. Get a small utility trailer - no more worries about stuff. And you don't have to hang junk all over your pretty truck.

Trailers fix a whole lot of problems, and generate a few uniquely their own. Trailers can be way cool. With a well designed hard lid or raised steel cargo rack and a tongue extension, you can even carry the boats on it, so your mileage will return to double digits. I won't travel without one.

I asume it it legal to load like this. This is the first time I used it. I ordered it from Cabelas and it came with no markers.I added the reflector tape and side markers.I had one of Virginias finest behind me on the way home.

I'm a little late on this one. If you are still into the rack thing (I like the trailer idea but they are spendy) drop Bill an email. I had him fry a rack together for me and have been real happy with it. He will fab up whatever you want. I went with a 52"x72"x6" rack w/o the expanded metal floor and used Quick-and-Easy 4" mounts.

I need to take some pics, maybe today. His prices are very reasonable and he is on the same coast so shipping won't kill you.

I agree that a trailer is an excellent option. I bought a utility trailer recently that cost $885 with 15" wheels. It's still in 'utility' mode but allows for a whole host of options. My wife and I have used it for a tun of projects around the house and has already paid for itself.

Off road capabilities are also numerous as it appears to be fairly rugged.

Don't buy the crappy 12" tire trailers at Lowes or Home Depot for anything off road...not worth getting stranded.

Here are a few shots of the rack Bill fabricated for me. Again it's 52"x72"x6". The rack was $300 something and the mounts were $140 from SOR. If I were to do it again I'd order the mounts directly from Quick-n-Easy as the pricing is better. Bill will make whatever size you want/need. I have been very pleased so far.

Kind of funny, I thought I recognized that pic (Seven Mile ORV), then I realized you were also in Spokane. I think I may have seen you around here. Nice setup you got.

I live 10 minutes away from that ORV area at Five Mile Prairie, and it makes a good testing ground for checking articulation. I posted some more pics on my trailer page when I went over the whoopdee-doos down in the stream valley (sand box) trying to bottom out the hitch. I never did bottom the hitch - the tongue jack is the low spot on the trailer.

It's a fun spot to crawl around in for an afternoon when the crazy teenaged motocrossers are in school. Otherwise it's like driving in an oversized kitty litter box with insane angry hornets buzzing around.....

See you around.
